Trump Turns To S.C. To Propel Unstoppable Campaign

A day after the New Hampshire primary, Republican presidential hopefuls were set Wednesday to fan out across South Carolina and begin jockeying for the first-in-the-South primary that has a history of picking the eventual nominee.

Billionaire businessman and reality TV star Donald Trump has the early edge in polling there and in other key states as the race turns to the South and West over the next six weeks.

South Carolina has the potential to launch Mr. Trump into victories in a series of delegate-rich multistate primaries next month and turn his campaign into an unstoppable juggernaut toward the nomination.

The problem is that Cruz is unelectable ... the majority of people know this

This makes no sense. Cruz did well in a liberal state, NH. Cruz won in a purple state, IA. When you put Cruz up against the communist Sanders, or the gangster clinton, he will be recognized for the principled, strong leader he is.

If Trump is the nominee the opposite will occur. He will be shown to be unprincipled, a crony capitalist, low character, bully. It could very well swing an election to someone like hillary.

There’s a cult of personality surrounding Trump that’s almost bloodthirsty.

Not almost, it is bloodthirsty.

The anger is so great that people don't care if the guy they back has no history as a conservative, can't even define what a conservative is, has no idea what conservative principals are, as long as he insults, denigrates, mocks, and belittles those they don't agree with. It doesn't matter if Trump believes in govt taking from one person to benefit another person (eminent domain), or thinks some form of socialized medicine is okay, or believes in touchback amnesty, as long as he insults everyone and keeps saying vague phrases (just like obama did) his followers will support him.

12% is not “doing well”. This notion that every place is important in NH except 1st is only being pushed by the media because 1st was Trump and not a Bush, Rubio, Christie or anyone else

Please, will somebody define “Racist” and “Sexist”?

To me they are Leftist taunts that are meaningless and are meant to shame people for being people because the Left, like Satan, HATES people.

Among other things the Right should go after these accusers in force and fury and blast this B.S. to smithereens for good.

To much “black-and-white thinking”, which is actually considered clinically dysfunctional, on FR and elsewhere.

NOBODY’S ALL good or ALL bad. Here you’ve got two very good candidates in Cruz and Trump. I’m for Trump, but a Cruz Presidency would be great. My concern is Cruz’s ability to win the general over Hillary (or even the primary over someone else). If Hillary isn’t the candidate, I could see Cruz beating crazy Bernie. But I think Trump would do better.

Can we take a longer view of this stuff? Recovery in America has got to last longer than eight years. A TRUMP/CRUZ win would contain the real possibility of sixteen years of recovery as Cruz would probably be able to walk into the Presidency after Trump’s term.

Yes some of the Cruz supporters have been insufferable, a few cranks leading the charge here, they spam every thread. I think I can speak for some Trump suppporters here. the reason we diusagree about Cruz is primarily his electability in the general and it is about winning, making philosophical statements is for authors, pundits, college professors and radio talk show hosts. I am sick of being lectured by the likes of Levin, Hannity, etc on how we must stick to purity, strict conservative principals or take our marbles and go home. They throw up specious sophistic arguments that we nominated Romney and McCain and look what we got. That is an apples an oranges argument and bears little resemblance to todays political horserace. Is Trump perfect, is he even close to perfect? Heck no, but he hits on a few themes with me, really dealing with trade with the Chicoms, taxes, the border, Islamofascism and the guy has some real world experience running a business. Cruz is a career lawyer and spent most of his life close to the government teat. No thanks. Its about stopping Hillary not winning intellectual arguments.

Supporting your candidate = Cult of personality

Cruz supporters need to get some new material. Its a meme, like calling a political figure Hitler. A substitute for thinking. When a Cruz supporter here taunts people with the terms Trumpettes or Trumpsters, they sound like a buffon.

Amen.

Would the purists support a candidate that signed the first “no fault” divorce laws into law? Setting the country on a disasterous course? And he was divorced on top of that.

How about that same candidate that signed abortion legislation into law?

Or granted amnesty to illegals?

The person who did all of the above was Ronald Reagan. Who, IMHO, is still the greatest POTUS in the history of this country.

The whole facade about “purity” is just that, a facade, especially when it comes to Donald Trump. The real reason most people on here hate him is because their are lime green with envy that he’s wealthy and does what’re the Hell he wants to do. He’s a Alpha Male of the first order and jealous nothings HATE that. But instead of being truthful, they endlessly spew bilge. Then they act indignant when they get their faces rubbed in the s**t that they started. Hypocrites and cowards. Not surprising though.

I agree with all that about both Cruz and Trump, but my concern with Cruz's political skill goes beyond tactics. It gets to who he is. He reminds me of the Christian right intellectual whose grasp of the Bible is astonishing, able to rattle off chapter and verse on any subject perfectly from memory... and whose merciless fire and brimstone dogma the non-fundamentalist audience regards with absolute horror, if they don't laugh out loud.

Cruz isn't that bad. (Santorum was the worst in that regard) But he's lawyerly in the way fundamentalists are legalistic, which is a cold approach. No one is particularly fond of lawyers or dogmatists. That the more fanatical Cruz opponents frame everything in personal moral terms ("Trump's wife was a NUDE MODEL! He owns CASINOS!") does nothing to alleviate the worries of those of us who place a bet now and then and who may have, at one time, read Playboy for the articles.

By the way, Melania's notorious nude photo is rated PG at worst, she's just posed on a rug, all the naughty bits carefully concealed. That's what has some Cruz fans on FR so worked up.

All of the polling data I’ve seen for South Carolina is at least two weeks old and before the Tim Scott endorsement. Does anyone have a newer polling data?

I’m sorry, but this time around, I want somebody who is going to put the US back on top, and stop going around with our tails dragged between our legs. And that is Trump. No, he isn’t the most conservative guy out there, I get that. But right now there are much bigger fish to fry.

Thank you buddy! I think so too.

We know the truth and speak it; others cower and lie. No surprise really...the truth can sting those that can’t take it.

Haven't seen any.

Coming off his massive win in NH Trump should win SC. Unless there's a Kasich surge...

It is called saving the country from socialism, and right now we have become a socialist country, with 1/2 of 1% getting richer than any time in American history, while the middle and even upper middle classes are being destroyed by both parties. IMHO, this is the last chance for America.
