CANDIDATES CRUZ BEAT SPENT $72.1 MILLION IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. CRUZ SPENT $580K.

There's a reason Ted Cruz didn't spend a lot of money in New Hampshire. It wasn't because he had given up on him having an impact there even though most in the media had. It wasn't because he didn’t think that the vote was an important one. It was because he's smart enough to hold back when others are going all in. In essence, Ted Cruz let them burn through their cash while he looked at the long game. To place an unexpected third in New Hampshire, Ted Cruz and his super PACs combined to spend $580,000. This is less than Rand Paul or Lindsey Graham spent before dropping out. It’s less than Carly Fiorina spent on a state where she expected to get less than 5% of the vote. It’s even less than Donald Trump spent… much less. His $3.7 million on top of constant free media coverage meant that Trump was in every household multiple times in the week leading up to the primary.

John Kasich, the other candidate who beat Cruz by placing second, did so by spending over 20x as much. It was a strong night for Kasich who wasn’t a blip on the radar in Iowa, but it also cost him the rest of the campaign barring a miracle; it took $12.1 million to get him second in New Hampshire, leaving him with less than $3 million cash on hand. Unless he can turn this second place finish into an unprecedented fundraising run, his campaign won’t have enough cash to survive into March. Pundits will paint his finish as a strong play for him, but he really needed to finish 1st to justify using nearly 80% of his campaign funds to earn three delegates.

Meanwhile, Cruz has the most cash on hand and the second most super PAC money. As the other candidates proved in New Hampshire, cash isn’t everything. Jeb Bush, who finished fourth, spent $36.1 million. Marco Rubio outspent Cruz nearly 30:1 in New Hampshire to finish fifth. Chris Christie, who will likely drop out, spent even more than Rubio to finish sixt

Cruz’s ground game is spread extensively across a whole bunch of states. Expect that to pick up in SC. The fight is just getting started.

Even better, Trump spent pretty much his own money, not stuff that other people gave him (that comes with strings).

I'm curious how you think Trump will fund a general election bid. Is he going to do it without spending money? That might be a trick, once the media no longer cares about giving him time to trash the Republican field.

If he is to spend money as others have in the past, history would put that number at about $1 billion. Now Trump is a rich man, but he's not that rich. He doesn't have a $1 billion in cash or fluid assets, and even if he did, I doubt he would spend the majority of his wealth on a run.

So where will the money come from?

Christie spent $18 million, give or take.

According to ad buy data provided by Morning Consult, Bush and his super PAC have spent an astounding $36.1 million in the Granite State. That's more than twice as much as the next-highest overall spender, Christie.
Jeb Bush Spent $1200 Per Vote In New Hampshire

That also suggests that Rubio and his support PACs didn't spend 30 million in NH. The article/OP says:

Marco Rubio outspent Cruz nearly 30:1 in New Hampshire

Thirty times 600,000 is 18 million.

Cruz forgets to include the 1.2 million his pacs spent

Ummmm...No.

From the article:

Do you think Bush will drop out? It would be a hard pill to swallow.

Oddly, he and Hillary were the designated hitters.

You just never know.

LOL! Looks like they already have! Midge McConnell has loaned out his top Chamber of Commerce affiliated attorney to head the latest pro-Cruz PAC. Maybe this is where some of the dirty tricks are coming from.

That does seem to be the case. The anonymous and money laundered donations to Team Cruz are the big giveaway that the GOPe is buying a back up plan. Who is donating this dirty money to Cruz? Soros? Goldman? Cheap Labor Express?

I think it would really hurt Trump to actually have to spend his money. Maybe on an 80 ft living room or a foreign trophy wife but ...

Where would Trump be without his celebrity which gained him all the free media coverage?

“Your point is really good. The comparison between Yeb! and Cruz is a perfect analog for the difference between the GOPe and real conservatives. GOPe, being essentially big government liberals, throw barrels of other people’s money at problems. The worse the problem gets, the more money they throw. A conservative analyzes the problem, evaluates how much money is needed or worthwhile to apply to the problem and spends that amount. Here, Cruz understood there was limited support to be gained in a liberal northeast state and spent enough to place within the delegate lottery, surpass the two establishment heavyweights and exceed expectations. Even in the loss, he looks strong and smart and ready to tackle the next problem.”

You said what I meant, but much more eloquently.

Cruz is a man of reasonable, but originally modest, means.

He’s doing fine now, but only because he can manage his money.

Compare and contrast with Rubio, Yeb, or Mr. Four Bankruptcies.

Just for giggles, what did Cruz spend in Iowa vs Trump for the one more delegate he got(hint, 2:1)

Let me help him get started...

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/us/elections/election-2016-campaign-money-race.html?_r=1

“.... More than 95% of the total contributions to super PACs supporting Ted Cruz came from donations of $1 million or more, more than any other candidate.”

Biff, just follow the bread crumbs from the clue provided. No truth better than the one you find yourself, right?

You did get that last part, more than any other candidate....any candidate.

No sweat. Just wanted to prevent you using that error over and over! No question, Bush, Rubio, Christie spent lots of money for not much in the way of votes, and that is the more important takeaway.

Cruz spent a hell of a lot more. Practically camped out in Iowa for months.

Dang it, you were first with a very important point that contradicts the very meaning of the headline of this thread!

I'd also venture to say, that Trump has spent less than Cruz has from beginning to end, and yet virtually doubles him in most major polls nationally.

Not saying Cruz is a spendthrift, just that in the entire campaign dollar analysis, Cruz has spent more. And has less (so far).

It’s amazing how the same people who claim Trump shoveling money to Democrats for decades was “just working within the system” are bashing Cruz for lining up Super PAC money.

Ted Cruz is a very smart man.
Consider this, the SEC primaries on March 1 st have a massive 595 delegates at stake, and you are going to have to run campaign ads and campaign in all 11 SEC states at the same time. It's going to take a lot of money to win. Rubio, Bush, Kasich who spent all these vast sums in New Hampshire, will not have as much financial wherewithal to run in the SEC primaries as Ted Cruz.
