Donald Trump’s Campaign Pulls a Negative Ad on Ted Cruz [Trump going 'nice' in SC]
NYTimes ^ | 02/11/2016 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

On Tuesday, Donald J. Trump's campaign started running a negative ad in South Carolina against Senator Ted Cruz that was searing, describing the winner of the Iowa Republican caucuses as a fake and a "Washington insider."

The spot also scolded Mr. Cruz for his campaign's role in spreading claims that Ben Carson had suspended his campaign while the caucuses were taking place; Mr. Carson, in fact, had not ended his candidacy, and Mr. Cruz later apologized to him.

But on Wednesday the spot was abruptly pulled down by the campaign. The Wall Street Journal reported on the strategic shift, saying that Mr. Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, had made the decision to go with all positive spots beginning on Thursday. Mr. Lewandowski made the decision after seeing that Mr. Trump's more positive-focused tone in New Hampshire appeared to help him at the end, according to The Journal.

Asked to confirm the Journal's account about only running positive spots going forward, Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for Mr. Trump, said that is now the campaign's plan, although she did not elaborate on the reason for the change.

The Don himself has said that he built his fortune on eminent domain.

I’ve posted these links before. Will you actually read them this time, or simply dismiss them as lies and go on peddling your false narrative?

Take particular note of this one:

http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/constitution/item/21478-trump-s-use-of-eminent-domain-to-take-what-he-wants

In 1994 when Trump promised to turn Bridgeport, Connecticut, a city of fewer than 150,000 residents, into a “world class” center, he explained that with his money, and the assistance of local government officials, Bridgeport would become “a national tourist destination by building a $350 million combined amusement park, shipping terminal and seaport village [Bridgeport is located on the Pequonnock River and Long Island Sound] and office complex on the east side of the harbor.” According to the Hartford Courant, which reported on the event, Trump used the phrase “world class” in “almost every statement.”

At the announcement, socialist mayor Joseph Ganim (Bridgeport has had an avowed socialist mayor for the last 24 years) yukked it up with The Donald — the two of them praising each other for each other’s foresight and ingenuity, and speaking of “returning Bridgeport to its glory days.”

The only problem was that five businesses and the city-owned Pleasure Beach occupied the parcel targeted by Trump and Ganim. The solution? Explained the Courant:

The city would become a partner with Trump Connecticut, Inc. and obtain the land through its powers of condemnation. Trump would in turn buy the land from the city.

The entire development would cost the city nothing, Trump said, and no private homeowners would be affected because there were no dwellings on the land. Trump would own everything.

In 1993, after the developer failed to complete the project, Trump entered the picture, putting up the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. But Trump needed a parking lot for all those limousines that would be bringing wealthy guests to stay and gamble, and, once again, the Cokings’ property stood in the way. Like the previous developer, Trump offered Vera Coking, now a widow, $1 million, and once again she turned it down.

This time Trump didn’t just go away. His friends with New Jersey’s Casino Reinvestment Development Agency filed suit, offering Coking $251,000 and threatening to evict her within 90 days if she didn’t accept the offer.

https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/02/trump-tries-to-hide-his-eminent-domain-beliefs

In the view of Donald Trump, “the greater good” overrules individual freedom. His eminent domain stance is far outside the realm of the republican form of government, the guiding philosophy of the United States of America, which emphasizes limited government, private property rights and self-governance. But in order to muddy the waters about what Trump actually believes, he threw up the Keystone Pipeline as if it is the same thing.

So, I no longer want to hear some passenger on the Trump Train tell me that Trump’s not a skilled politician and that he’s beholden to no one. He has deflected from his role in trying to force a lady to sell her home so that he could personally benefit. He used political maneuvering to make it so, a well-hewn political straw man argument to sell it, leaving us to recall all of his donations to certain Democratic politicians who were “there for him” when he needed them.

Well, you can’t very well pick a guy for Veep that you’ve thoroughly demonized during the campaign, now can you?

Also, I’m glad that it has sunk in that sometimes acting like a pol on the campaign trail isn’t always the worst thing - it is only acting like a pol after getting elected that most people don’t like.

This will make Trump’s nomination more likely - his negatives should go down a fair amount if he keeps this up.

Trump must be winning big in the internal polling. “going negative” is a tactic losing campaigns try as a “Hail Mary” play to try to turn things around. if you are winning, you “go positive”.

Guess Trump figured out he needs to fix his high negatives...

Calling other candidate’s ugly names only reinforced his negative numbers...

You still have not documented a single instance of Trump using eminent domain to take one square inch of property. You are a LIAR.

3-4 weeks before the caucus, Trump was down by 10 points in Iowa. He closed to a tie but really never lead outside the margin of error. In SC, Trump has been leading the entire time and will continue to do so.

You did not post any evidence, you are a LIAR. Trump never made a dime from eminent domain and Trump never took one square inch of property via eminent domain. Prove me wrong, I dare you.

So what happened with that rumor that Cruz and Trump met with each other right after NH? Just a rumor?

They are now past the point of no return in terms of uniting to create The Unbeatable Team, imo. That’s just too bad. It may have been the only chance we had at beating the RNC.

Has anyone done the math on which 8 states the RINO can win in order to take the nomination? That was the 2012 rule change by the RNC to keep out anyone who wasn’t a RINO.

I've never understood the animosity the Trumpsters have toward Cruz supporters.

Oh that's rich.

Agreed- The problem Trump and Cruz have in attacking each other is each needs the other’s voters. Negetive ads may make someone double think support, but in a multi-candidate race does not guarantee support for you....

Problem is, it appears most of Cruz supporters will go to Bush if Cruz crashes...

I don’t know if that’s the way to go.
The public needs to know about Cruz and his dirty dealing.
