Yes, I know. It’s another area in which Cruz is correct.
Then they shouldn’t be drafted. There will be plenty of nurse and clerical volunteers from among female ranks in the country.
HOWEVER, and I repeat again, EVERY specialty is expected to be a combat multiplier, and war is no longer one dimension with static lines separating forces. In fact, the objective is to attack your enemy’s rear area and destroy his logistical and communication and command/control capabilities.
We would have far to many to accommodate everybody. Let’s just make sure the males in Former Senator Allen’s family are serving, the Romney boys, the Cantor boys, the Sununu boys, the Burr boys, etc.
The draft would only be used in a national emergency (not a war), and women could be just as helpful as men in such situations.
Wars with countries big enough to require a draft are going to be over in a few hours anyway.
I support drafting women as well; they are 59% of college classes with preferential treatment in admissions, and are given affirmative action jobs & promotions. Any guy who would die defending this is a fool.
I’m with you; the idea of my sons dying for this leftist white man-hating nonsense is absurd & unthinkable. With a friend who had two children enlist, I took it a step further: How would you feel if your child had to kill someone in these half-assed “wars” with horrible rules of engagement and lack of political will?
I believe we will all meet God one day and have to explain ourselves; if asked why I killed someone, I’d hate to resort to the “I was ordered to” defense with Him.
Altruism. In time of national emergency. And besides, plenty of draftees will be available to fulfill their duty. They will be extra.
A nation that sends it’s women to fight it’s wars is not fit to be called a nation.
HEY!
I have Aspergers and I am offended that you’d compare me to Jeb.
...
Unfortunately, you’re probably right that it’s something an Aspie like me would do.
I’m still pissed off that you compared me to Jeb, though!
You make a compelling point.
Well, there’s Aspergers, then there’s JEBpergers.
I guess he started to feel some of the blowback from this, which is good. I expect it to become a topic at Saturday's debate, and all of the candidates will be asked to clarify their positions on it.
For that reason, I'm glad those generals, and those Representatives, raised this issue in the first place, else nobody would be discussing it.
The right answer is that women should not be drafted but should be volunteers, and that no ground combat arms unit have females on their manning roster, because it will degrade unit effectiveness in COMBAT, as many studies have demonstrated.
I’m more comfortable with those females in combat service support units than I am having them in combat support units.
When they’re out on the road, there are not always available hydraulics or available men to lift a heavy tire so a lady truck driver can change it.
JMHO.
I DO WANT all of the candidates on record with this, and it will be a significant part of my assessment of their suitability to be commander in chief.
I think there's a chance we might get some of the GOP candidates to come around on this. I understand the politics of this -- they don't want to look "anti-women". But by doing that exhaustive study, the Marines gave some potential cover to a candidate who wants to take a stand. "The Marines know a lot more about combat than I ever will, and I'm not going to overrule them on this.
Because I think that if the Administration didn't apply the kind of pressure they did, there's no way the other services would have gone along with that. After all, if they wanted to put women in combat units, nothing prevented them from doing so.
So I'd be willing to support someone who said "no registration for women" and "leaving the issue of combat up to the professionals". It might be as good as we can get, and the result would probably be the same anyway.
This is your money quote, and it truly is 'right on the money':
"So I'd be willing to support someone who said "no registration for women" and "leaving the issue of combat up to the professionals". "
