Islam is primarily a political movement and then only secondarily has some pro forma religious window dressing.
another very basic mistake is thinking that Muslims primarily follow the Quran as we might follow the Bible but that is incorrect.
they primarily follow the the Hadith, which is a biography, more or less, of the life of Muhammad.
