Pretty soon Mexico is going to have to put up a wall to keep Americans from going there to take their jobs back.

“Today 40% of all businesses labor costs here in the US is due to regulatory compliance”

Wow. I knew it was high but I didn’t realize it was that high. Even with a lot of natural advantages we still have over competing nations, such as infrastructure, etc. that’s still a huge handicap to have to overcome.

The execs at Carrier were asked to name specific regulations that were causing them to move off shore and they couldn’t name any.

I wonder if this "move" is possible because of Clinton's NAFTA or Bush's CAFTA?

Bottom line...We get the SHAFTA.

If you are for free trade you are not a patriot.

Patriotism ends at the wallets edge.

Thanks for the info. I’m not specifically defending Carrier in this instance. I don’t know enough about the specific circumstances, but just in general wanted to point out that the company is not always to blame in such cases. Sometimes they have little choice.

I replaced a micro wave oven that I inherited that was built in the USA in the 1980s. It finally died two years ago. Since then I have had to replace my Japan built(Chinese parts) micro wave twice.

"U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly says the head of the Carrier Corporation could not point to one federal regulation which the company says was responsible for its decision to relocate facilities in Indianapolis and Huntington to Mexico."

Finding a decent 2 slice toaster is as difficult as seeking The Holy Grail.

LOL, I thought that I was the only one that could not find a decent 2 slice toaster.

"Today 40% of all businesses labor costs here in the US is due to regulatory compliance"

This is misleading propaganda. Manufacturing labor costs are a small part of the overall retail price of any manufactured good. It averages between 6-8% of the retail unit price. So 40% of 8% is 3% of the retail price. 3 cents on the dollar. You cannot trust a thing any corporate exec tells you. They are paid to lie.

In a just world the executive that delivered that speech to the gathered employees would have left in an ambulance.

What NAFTA and global trade has done to the American economy the past 20 years has been absolutely catastrophic

I agree, and they're trying for more of the same, if not worse with the TPP and other pending agreements.

You said you were young during the NAFTA debate. The public opposed NAFTA by around 65% or more, and its supporters could not get it through the House until several congressmen were bought off with special consideration for business and ag interests in their districts.

Here is a fairly short article from 11/18/1993 about the NAFTA passage and some of what it took to get it passed.

House Approves U.S.-Canada-Mexico Trade Pact on 234 to 200 Vote, Giving Clinton Big Victory

Nothing brings out the Uniparty forces like one of the big globalist trade or immigration deals. I can recall back to the late 1950s and recall no legislation that brought out the full court press like the NAFTA debate.

3% of the retail price doesn’t tell the whole story. 3% of the retail price may still represent 40% of the manufacturer’s costs. The markup once it’s sold is a separate issue and out of their hands. Just to reiterate, I’m not defending Carrier in this instance. They may be leaving for all the wrong reasons. Just pointing out not to loose sight of the fact that companies sometimes have legitimate reasons to move if they want to survive. That reality also needs to be dealt with by our government.

Ballsy move considering Trump is going to win. Pretty in your face if you ask me. I hope Trump slaps a hug tariff on all imports.
