The World Health Organization says the Guillain-Barre neurological disorder is on the rise

The World Health Organization says the Guillain-Barre neurological disorder is on the rise in several Latin American countries that are also seeing an outbreak of the Zika virus

BERLIN (AP) - A rare neurological disorder is on the rise in several Latin American countries that are also seeing an outbreak of the Zika virus' the World Health Organization said Saturday.

The U.N. health body in Geneva said in a weekly report that Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), which can cause temporary paralysis, has been reported in Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Suriname and Venezuela.

The increase in Guillain-Barre cases is appearing in conjunction with the spread of the Zika virus to 34 countries and also with increasing cases of microcephaly, a rare condition in which infants are born with abnormally small heads.

However, the health agency said "the cause of the increase in GBS incidence ... remains unknown, especially as dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus have all been circulating simultaneously in the Americas."

While "no scientific evidence to date confirms a link between Zika virus and microcephaly or GBS," the agency pointed out that GBS was also observed during the 2013-14 Zika virus outbreak in French Polynesia.

Thank you, but lessons were learned in that experience. Never trust the government. We refuse all medications prescribed by a Dr. who has been told/ordered to make the recommendations.

Not only in Brazil. I had a baby four years ago and doctors were not pushing a single vaccine on us. They OK’ed the Mercury containing flu shot, which I thought was insane, but nothing else.

Around the same time Brazil started forcing their pregnant women to take the dTAP vaccine, the CDC made doctors in America PUSH HARD to their pregnant patients to get it too. For EACH pregnancy. Not once, for each pregnancy. Even one year apart.

The package insert for the DTAP says it has never been tested as safe for pregnant women or their unborn babies. The CDC has moved the vaccine into a class B or less dangerous drug during pregnancy, WITH ZERO STUDIES to back up this claim.

The bad effects are not just microcephaly. Some babies, perfectly healthy and nearly 30 weeks along, have been dying. You must not take vaccines while pregnant. They are NOT PROVED SAFE. Your doctor will push and push and tell you drastic bad things will happen if you refuse. Please remember that for the rest of history including four years ago, no doctor insisted on this. It’s all new. And wholly unproven.

According to the government lawsuit payouts, the flu vaccine causes Guillain-barre.

Good article about the policy of vaccinating pregnant women vs the actual science about it.

Please read it if you’re planning children or if grandchildren are in the works.

You have had some serious challenges.

You can understand why Neurologist heads are on swivel over this. It has to be properly diagnosed.

Some interesting tidbits about GBS..

Other notables who have contracted this terrible disease:
Andy Griffith - actor
Joseph Heller - author of Catch 22
Bud Palmer - basketball star and sportscaster

GBS and its cousin, CIDP (Chronic Ideopathic Demyelinating Polyneuropathy) are auto-immune illnesses. After the immune system fights off a virus or vaccine it then turns around and attacks the nervous system. In the case of GBS it attacks the myelin sheath around the axons. This can be likened to the insulation around a wire. The body can regrow the myelin but if there are repeated attacks, as in CIDP, then the axon is damaged or destroyed.

My son contracted this illness in 1986. First diagnosed as GBS and then changed to CIDP by doctors at Duke Medical Center. In 1990 we took him to Duke and he was placed in a study of children with CIDP. From that study the preferred course of treatment for GBS and CIDP has become IVIG or intravenous gamma globulin. This is an extremely expensive medication made even more so by the so called “Affordable” Care Act.

He has been left with permanent disabilities, weakness in the hands and drop foot. In addition this has taken an emotional toll on him. However, unable to work, he has learned to play the game of Scrabble. He’s gotten so good that he now plays Scrabble professionally!!

All that to say: GBS is a bad boy! No two cases are alike. Some people recover with no residuals. Some get the ultimate residual, death.

I have not seen any papers mentioning birth defects before 2015. This paper from 2014 points out 40 Guillain-Barre syndromes (8x the normal rate): https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Henri_Pierre_Mallet/publication/263741258_Current_Zika_virus_epidemiology_and_recent_epidemics/links/55edd62308aef559dc437cc8.pdf

Thanks for the link. Reading now.

Other Freepers directed me to environmental factors in Brazil. I have looked and not found any papers mentioning birth defects in the past too.

Here is a paper that was brought to my attention in regards to environmental factors.

I read about this.

Hopefully American women are educated enough about vaccines to know better than to cooperate with this outrage. If I had an insistent doctor pushing at me to do this, I would get a new doctor pronto!

The younger doctors are the most dangerous, I find. They are like mindless robotrons...ethically challenged.

Is GBS related to peripheral neuropathy? If so, it is devastating because PN is difficult to cure.

Thanks. Looked at it, however I don't know enough about to comment at this time.

I am suspicious however a mosquito program in Brazil from three years ago.

Genetically engineered mosquitoes added to the fight against dengue and chikungunya

However, Guy Reeves, a molecular geneticist at Germany's Max Planck Institute says, "Oxitec should still do more to show that the synthetic DNA causes no harm when transferred into humans by its mosquitos. To build trust in any cutting-edge science, a range of independent experts - not just the company that stands to gain or the regulatory agency involved - should have enough access to data published in peer-reviewed journals to be able to explain the scientific benefits and risks.

and

Are scientists to blame for Zika virus? Researchers released genetically modified mosquitos into Brazil three years ago

Since the last time I searched, there is a major media spin going on with Oxitec. The narrative being pushed is Oxitec is the wonder company that will stop Zika.

Vaccines have been connected to GBS. South America has been the target of bad vaccine programs, too. The Catholic church discovered vaccines being given in Africa and South America which sterilized the victims.

In addition, they are newly vaccinating pregnant women in Brazil.

A vaccine against a disease that can cause GBS can also cause GBS because the GBS is caused by an inappropriate immune response against the organism causing the disease. However, because the dose of microorganism is far higher during an infection than received from a vaccine, the chance of acquiring GBS from a disease is far higher than from a vaccine.

We still do not know exactly how GBS develops. When that process is better understood, vaccine researchers will be able to eliminate from vaccines the parts of microorganisms that are responsible for development of GBS. At that time, there will no longer be vaccine caused GBS.

Also, it is impossible for a vaccine to cause sterilization, unless the vaccine was designed for that purpose. That is because a vaccine is made of proteins, parts of microorganisms, or attenuated microorganisms, none of which look like components of ovaries or testes to the immune system. In order to have a vaccine that causes sterility, the vaccine would have to actually contain proteins that are found on reproductive organ cells, in order to teach the immune system to attack those cells.

Vaccinating pregnant women is an important health measure. Pregnant women vaccinated against influenza have more healthy babies than non-vaccinated women. Vaccinating pregnant women against whooping cough helps to protect the newborn since the antibodies her body makes in response to the vaccine pass into the unborn baby, giving it protection that lasts for a few months, until the baby is old enough to be vaccinated.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if some vaccine or vaccines were responsible. They can play havoc with the immune system.

Um... since it takes a minimum of 10-12 years of clinical testing on thousands of volunteers before a vaccine can even be submitted for FDA approval, don't you think that any vaccine candidate that "plays havoc with the immune system" would be weeded out fairly early in the process?

www.nvic.org is NOT a source of medical information about vaccines or any other subject.

FYI, TDAP has been tested in pregnant women. You can look it up for yourself over at www.pubmed.org, instead of taking some anti-vax kook site’s word for it.

Isn’t “nvic” run by Barbara Loe Fisher, a known anti-vax nutjob? She has absolutely NO medically related training in any discipline—why choose to believe her, rather than the researchers who actually study and understand vaccines?

No, because it can take much time for such effects to occur, and they masquerade as other things, mostly inflammatory ailments. It's very difficult to correlate, for example, a child developing asthma, with a vaccination he may have received years before, or the death of a senior citizen from pneumonia he caught when his immune system was weakened by the natural effects of a flu inoculation.

The veterinary profession has gotten wise about the potential hazards of vaccination, and I think it's time the human medical profession caught on too.

I’ll post what I want to post and you post what you want to post.

I did not have any vaccines and my babies were robust and perfect, thank you very much. You take as many jabs as you want while your baby is in your body.

I would never advise pregnant women to take a vaccine. But you go ahead and try to sell that nonsense if that’s your thing.

“Well, nothing happened to me when I didn’t protect myself, therefore nothing will ever happen to anyone who takes the same risks” is not a sound argument.

The thing is that babies do die of infectious disease all the time. Just because you were lucky (or everyone around you was vaccinated) does not mean that everyone else would be so lucky.

Women used to have lots of kids in the hope that a couple would actually survive to adulthood. Vaccines changed all of that. Because of vaccines, most kids today grow up.

I am a medical researcher, and my focus happens to be public health. If you post nonsense from anti-vax sites and I see it, I *will* post factual information in order to inform people about the truth. Unlike the bilge copied from anti-vax sites, everything I post is documented with actual published medical research.

Refusing to take vaccines or to vaccinate your kids because the fact that every other kid is vaccinated decreases the chance that your kids will be exposed to a deadly disease is no different than living off the dole and taking advantage of people who work.
