Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.
Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.
U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia's death.
"I was told it was this morning," Biery said of Scalia's death. "It happened on a ranch out near Marfa. As far as the details, I think it's pretty vague right now as to how," he said. "My reaction is it's really unfortunate with any death. And now, politically, in the presidential cycle we're in my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is elected."

Oh please. He was 79, overweight, and a smoker. Tragedy, yes; murder, highly, highly unlikely.
We’re now royally screwed. The left must be giddy with delight.
Zero would have to nominate someone, and they would need to be confirmed.
It’s not going to happen till after the election.

It’s one thing for Hussein to nominate someone. It’s another for the Senate to confirm. Maybe they’re seeing the handwriting on the wall with Trump’s popularity, i.e., that their political futures are hanging by a thread. What are the chances they’ll do the right thing for a change? Could happen. Doubt it; they’ve always approved every nomination by a Dem president, haven’t they?
There are a few initial steps to be taken before going to Senate. But since this was most likely a “hit”, we have to assume those steps have been taken already and can be produced tomorrow if needed. They are:
STEP ONE: The President selects a nominee
Nomination: The President announces a nomination to the Senate.
Nominee’s Paperwork: The nominee completes paperwork concerning finances and personal background.
FBI Investigation: The FBI probes the nominee’s criminal history, if any.
Then it goes to Senate.
The Senate must not confirm anyone nominated to replace Scalia, just like when the Senate refused to confirm Abe Fortas to replace Chief Justice Warren. Fortas was nominated by the lame-duck President Johnson.

Recess appointments can’t be made to the Supreme Court so it’s senate confirmation or nothing. Now if we had a senate with a pair they would say from day one, we will NOT confirm anybody to the left of Scalia, period. However I’m guessing McCain, Graham and crew are already drooling to prove how inclusive the party is by quickly confirming whatever far leftist women, minority, homosexual that Obama nominates.
This resort is remote, down near Mexico border S. of Alpine.
Within range of the porous non existent Mexican border, and the criminals coming over every day.
One wonders what kind of security a Supreme Court justice has on a daily basis. Certainly as much as any candidate, or wife of former perv president, one would think.
Does any FReeper know the security? The man was 79, but this should require a post mortem.
Antonin Scalia was brilliant jurist and a great, great American. What a loss.
