During the Vietnam War, the recruiting stations in Plattsburgh NY had signs in French. More Canadians fought in the war in the US military in Vietnam than Americans dodging the draft in Canada. Also, the draft was not just for American citizens. Anyone living within the United States, even students from abroad, were eligible for the draft. During the Korean War, an older fellow I know was drafted into the Army a month after he arrived here from Italy. He was on a troopship headed for Korea before he knew what happened. He later worked for my Dad, and the Army docked his pay for a BAR they said he lost.

Good point. Since he’s now too old to fight, what counts NOW is whether he will use our troops as cannon fodder or allow them to operate freely, as done in countries that actually want to win.

I believe it. My friend got caught in a rule change and had to get out or become a US citizen to stay in the Army. I would guess that those rules change in wartime when they need people.
