SCOTUS Analyst: Loretta Lynch 'Most Likely Candidate' to Replace Scalia
NBCNEWS.COM ^ | FEB 15, 2016 | Corky Siemaszko

A leading Supreme Court analyst thinks Attorney General Loretta Lynch is the "most likely candidate" to replace the late conservative Justice Antonin Scalia.

Tom Goldstein, who runs the influential SCOTUSblog, had earlier predicted Ninth Circuit Judge Paul Watford would make the top of President Obama's shortlist. But in a revised blog post, Goldstein said he now believes Lynch is the leading contender.

Lynch is a "very serious possibility," Goldstein wrote. "The fact that Lynch was vetted so recently for attorney general also makes it practical for the president to nominate her in relatively short order."

There should be a march on Washington if any Obama nom. gets a real Senate vote...but bring the torches and pitchforks with you if she's the one.

Not one of his picks should ever get out of committee.

It’s a great day to get more ammo. One never knows when it may be needed.

Of course, any day is a great time to get more ammo.

Maybe sooner, than later.

If I thought I could count on the Senate to laugh Lynch out of the confirmation hearing room, I’d be fine with giving her the vote. But I can’t. If we leave them alone for 5 minutes they’ll make some deal that will confirm her.

For that reason, I hope they don’t hold the hearing.

Article quotes the SCOTUSBLOG writer as suggesting that it would be hard to cast Lynch as ‘excessingly liberal’ due to her prosecutorial experience.

Bet me.

Of course her “2-for-1” minority status is also pointed out... but the GOP isn’t losing any votes there anyway, so election year politicking is irrelevant... especially compared to the damage she would do in that chair.

They will

If Trump or Cruz are the nominee, it will sail through unopposed.

This would be as bad as Sotamayor... a true believer policy enactor and enabler now in charge of interpretation... I don’t think so.

Sure - hold the hearing... but vote her down. This is a “run out the clock” situation, so I frankly don’t care who gets nominated. You know *some* whack-job will get a nod.

Just so long as nobody gets to the floor for a real vote.

Not one of his picks should ever get out of committee.

You're right but the charges of racism and war on women carry too much weight with the Republican Senators.

You really think Cruz would rubberstamp a Marxist in an election year?
