Noting with sorrow Justice Scalia’s death, Sowell begs his readers to sober up:

The vacancy created on the Supreme Court makes painfully clear the huge stakes involved when we choose a President of the United States, just one of whose many powers is the power to nominate justices of the Supreme Court.

After enumerating these, and indirectly reminding readers that the next president is apt to be a wartime president, he makes his views about Trump perfectly clear:

Against this background, the frivolous rhetoric and childish antics in the televised political “debates” are painful to watch. If ever there was a time to choose a president with depth, rather than glitter or glibness, this is it.

Trump’s behavior is often that of an “overgrown spoiled brat,” he remarks:

If, by some miracle, Trump became president, what kind of president would he be? Do we need another self-centered know-it-all in the White House to replace the one we have now?

So “free market” Sowell just endorsed a guy who on Sunday divided the electorate into “believers” and “non-believers.”

So my question is, “do you have to believe like Ted” to be a believer? Madison said this was extremely dangerous, because Madison, a loose Anglican, saw immediately that people who weren’t “believers” like the majority would face problems from, say, the Puritans. (People such as the Baptists, whom the Puritans persecuted, but didn’t kill).

When you begin dividing the electorate as “believer” vs. “non-believer,” it will inevitably come to “whose specific belief” is acceptable? We already see Freepers who rejected Carson because he was a Seventh-Day Adventist, Romney because he was a Mormon. Does it get to Catholics?

People understand that the attempt at Nation Building was a mistake. They also understand that Obama gave away Iraq when the war had been won.

Trump however accuses Bush of being a traitor who lied about WMD’s and had actionable intel on the 9-11 attack that he didn’t use to stop the attack.

IOW Trump is calling Bush a traitor. That is a blood libel way beyond a mistake.

He is right there with Code Pink and M Moore in his beliefs, and slander of a decent man who was a failed president at a number of levels.

The Supreme Court may be called upon to rule on Cruz’s eligibility. With Scalia gone, if Cruz is the nominee, he’d better chose his VP wisely.

They would love to have Cruz win the primary...He's the least likely one up there to be a threat to Bernie or Hillary...
