I don't like the idea of Obama appointing another justice, but the president gets to decide. The American people knew this when they elected him, twice. The idea that we need to wait until the next election is cheap politics, pure and simple.
I understand that the senate gets to advice and consent. I also understand that the court could be unbalanced for years to come. So I would applaud the senate for running out the clock, but not for some lame excuse like stated above.
All politics is cheap. This just happens to be nakedly so. What else do you expect? If Obama were to name someone relatively “moderate,” and the Senate were to confirm, that would alter the balance of the Court. If a Dem wins the presidency in November, same thing. This is the only shot there is: “delay, delay, delay,” and hope the GOP candidate prevails in November. Call it desperation, or cheap politics, but it’s the only game in town if you don’t want the make-up of the Court to change.

Strongly disagree. Most of the voters who put Obama into office don’t know anything about the supreme court, let alone that the president is responsible for appointing its judges.
The voters who put Obama into office knew only two things:
- He’s black
- He will give them free stuff
