Hey Republicans, This Is How You Beat Trump—For Real [the Daily Beast wants to save the GOP]
Daily Beast ^ | 17 Feb 16 | Stuart Stevens

A few months ago I wrote that Donald Trump was probably going to withdraw before the Iowa caucuses rather than face the embarrassment of defeat. Wrong. He did lose Iowa, seemed momentarily humbled, but then quickly reverted to form by asserting that he really won. He went on to a landslide victory in New Hampshire and now leads in South Carolina.

While much of the political world speculates that Trump may be creating a new kind of candidacy largely immune to normal attacks, let me make another assertion (that may prove as wrong as the previous): Donald Trump should be easy to defeat. What makes him not a “normal” candidate actually makes him more vulnerable rather than stronger. Let me explain.

In a Republican primary, Trump lacks both an ideological or geographic base. For all the focus on his bigoted remarks about Mexicans and Muslims, Trump has won self-identified moderate voters in both Iowa and New Hampshire. In Iowa, he lost conservatives and very conservatives but won them in NH (in a landslide victory like he had in NH, it’s hard to win everything.) In a party that is increasingly dominated by the South and Sunbelt, Trump lives on Fifth Avenue.

I have to tell you that those potatoes at his rallies are completely self-selected and not representative of the nation as a whole only underscores how stupid most Trumpettes are.

The Number One mission of running for elective office: attract and hold more supporters than anyone else.

Your guy would pay good Goldman Sachs money for those potatoes. But he can't attract them.

Trump's potatoes are trouncing yours.

Those potatoes aren’t enough to win nationally.

How much did Trump give to Terry McAuliffe to help him win in Virginia in 2013? 25K. Well, I suppose he had to do that. We all know that it’s pay to play if you’re a man who is a Real Estate developer in New York City. After all, Virginia is so close to NYC.

You are right, there is tons of evidence on Trump, yet the Tumpbots ignore it all because Trump says he “wants to make America Great Again.” It doesn’t make any difference to the Trumpbots that is entire life has been based on lies and follow like sheep just because he said he has changed with no evidence that demonstrates he has changed or keep his current promises.

You just don’t understand the Don. He has business everywhere in the US and all over the world so I’ve been told. That’s a lot of politicians to have to buy just so he can make a buck. It must be exhausting being the Don.:)

Have you considered nihilism as a political philosophy most attuned to your sentiments.

Actually it is a trip to the local Walmart where it is like I enter a foreign nation that woke me up.... On any given day of the week it becomes harder and harder to find a majority of English speaking customers... Oh, I do not eat hogs... And I resent to high heaven KennedyCare, and Obama's illegals get free health care and our Vets are treated like second class citizens.... Yeah, that fascism all right... But carry on...

Its amazing, running a campaign of "I WILL PUT AMERICA FIRST" should be such an easy message to co-opt, yet the fact is not a single one of many candidates with R beside their names can do it... what does that tell you about the state of the Republican party?

A-frickin-men.

Great post.

I know. Isn’t it strange, though, that he deserves so much credit for stopping liberalism while he was simultaneously funding it? I’ve noticed words don’t matter if it’s Trump. I’ve noticed character doesn’t matter if it’s Trump. And I notice that actions, like funding, don’t matter if it’s Trump. The main idea with Trump is TO BELIEVE. It’s a faith-based candidacy premised on the idea that one man can be a super hero for conservatives after he’s funded, praised, partied with, and done everything in his power for the Democrats. And you know it’s not popular to mention Donald’s biography. That’s a sin.

Daily Beotch is the mortal remains of Newsweek Magazine, which, when last seen, was sold for a dollar.

Not the magazine, the company.

You say he’s a hydra-headed monster. And you say you want him to destroy. I think Obama’s done enough destroying, but I do realize that Trump has picked up some Democrat support. Are you a Democrat who favors destruction, nihilism, and anarchy?
