British businesses could have their gas supplies cut off in order to keep households in other parts of Europe warm, under a proposed new EU law. A new "solidarity principle" would apply to gas supplies to ensure that households, healthcare and security services across Europe were maintained as a priority in the event of a severe crisis. "In practice this means member states will have to give priority to protected consumers in neighbouring countries over non-protected customers at home," Miguel Arias Canete, the EU energy commissioner, said. "We don’t back legally-binding rules in this area, which is what we and others will make clear when negotiations start." Department of Energy and Climate Change The rules would apply only as a "last resort" in an emergency situation, the EC said. The UK said it would oppose the new rules.

So when the Ukraine steals Russian gas headed for western Europe next time, the Muzzie migrants must be kept warm in Germany even if the British factories have to be shut down.

This program sounds a lot like what we call “curtailment”,
which we have had here in the U.S. for decades.

The large users of natural gas (manufacturers) agree to a price structure
that includes the provision for being cut-off or having huge price increases
during sudden cold snaps or other periods where demand exceeds supply.
That is why so many U.S. plants have a back-up fuel oil boiler on-site.

What exactly is the UK beef? They import large amounts of natural gas from Norway and the Netherlands. They have killed off their North Sea production.

Wow. This surpasses even the worst predictions I heard about the EU when I was in high school, and is surprising the friends and family I’m sharing it with. Cutting off their biggest income stream, not to mention industrial production, so that useless food-tubes IN OTHER NATIONS can lounge around in shorts...wow.
