“I’m not sure you see the logical disconnect there. How can you be comfortable siding with those who’ve betrayed us?”

If that were the case I would be voting for Rubio or Kasich or would have supported Bush.

Do you think Trump is a conservative?

“In what specific way was my comment “whiny”?”

You flatly stated that you won’t vote for Trump if he’s our nominee. Around these parts, that’s universally understood to be a whiny ass comment.

Picture a pouting child with his arms folded = whiny, petulant.

“As a conservative, think about the fact that we need to destroy the liberal Uniparty.”

Is that why the GOPe tends to favor Trump over Cruz?

I, too, refuse to vote for a liberal. Clinton or Sanders is ‘right out’, as the British say.

The biggest issue, as I am sure many will agree, is immigration. We don’t want more from the outside coming in, we want those who are here illegally to leave (or be forced out) and we certainly do NOT want Muslims coming here (while we DO want those that ARE here to leave). I think we can pretty much all agree on that.

So...if Trump IS the nominee, and does get elected as President...how is he going to accomplish this?

I know there are those who will say “enforce the laws we have”. Needs to be done, but much easier said than done, to be sure. Besides the sheer logistics of doing that, there are those who will actively oppose any such enforcement. There are elected officials (many of whom are not up for re-election in this cycle) who are ‘pro-illegal’ or ‘pro-muslim’, whether out of personal belief or abject fear of reprisal.

I know someone who, envisioning a Trump victory (and based on the rhetoric they’ve heard), imagines the morning of January 21st, 2017. They envision pickup truck loads of armed men hoping to “help the President get a start on things” going to neighborhoods where illegal aliens are and forcing them at gunpoint to “get the hell out”. If they don’t, they shoot them. They imagine the same thing being done to Muslims.

Irrational fear? Probably.

I know NONE of us wants to be taken for a ride like so many politicians have done to us in the past. If someone says they’re going to do something, they need to DO it.

I’m just reminded of another person who promised to make his country great again. It was Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines. He did seem to accomplish what he set out to do, and got the power to do it....

...by declaring martial law.

If Trump runs up against a Congress who won’t do what he wants, what will he do?

(Not that I need to say it, but I will anyway: Martial law is unacceptable for ANY reason, by ANYONE, except at the absolute end of need.)

Well than, just change parties or join the dems and you won’t even have to worry.

I also am tired of holding my nose and voting for people I have almost no respect for but this time I have a candidate who at least has most of my key points: immigration, trade, 2A and anti PC on his plate. I cannot recall the last time I could believe any of the candidates when they espoused some of those beliefs and really got ticked off at GWB when he unilaterally decided to go virtual open borders.

Meanwhile, point to some things, beyond some obscure issue, wherein you think this guy is a flame throwing liberal. You don’t like him personally, I get that. But when I size him up to the other individuals in the race, aside from Cruz, I cannot find anyone I’d be as content to vote for. On the dem side, I surely don’t want that witch in the white hut.

You hate Trump. The Republican establishment hates Trump.

You’re on their bandwagon.

Simple.

I don’t “hate Trump”. I think he is a good deal more liberal than he or his supporters would have us believe. I don’t particularly appreciate certain elements of his campaign style. But I don’t necessarily dislike the man.

I just can’t in good conscience vote for him.

You spend six months getting compared to chimps, called a cultist, moron, and zombie, and being told you’re going to Hell, and then see if you can resist the temptation to punch back.

I have exactly zero sympathy for you. And now I shall respond with the level of maturity that the Cruzies have set as the gold standard on FR.

YOU LOSE. IN YOUR FACE!

The GOPe favors itself over all comers, Trump or Cruz. Either one would seriously undermine their power.

I’m a verifiable Cruz guy. But I see that Trump also helps destroy the Uniparty. I can live with Trump, knowing I’m getting a politically un-moored populist. He’ll destroy half of what we care about, and half of what the uniparty cares about.

That’s a huge improvement.

I’ll likely sit this one out.

By not voting, or by using your vote irresponsibly in support of a superfluous candidate, you cede your right to complain about the governmental machinations which you might oppose...

“I just can’t in good conscience vote for him.”

Fair enough. I can appreciate you rejecting Trump on purely ideological grounds. Few conservatives who support him claim that he’s a movement conservative.

It’s his signature policies that we agree with, and find to be conservative. More than that, we see his policies as correct and appropriate solutions to the most pressing existential threats we face.

He’s also the only candidate with the kind of established record as a dynamic and successful executive to be credible when making such promises. Proven leadership counts for everything when choosing someone who’s expected to take control of an out of control, corrupted behemoth, like the U.S. government.

From what I’ve observed, there’s only one candidate standing who’s got such qualifications, and that’s Trump.
