Donald Trump: Champion of Foreign Workers in America
PJ Media ^ | February 25, 2016 | Rick Moran

Posted on 02/25/2016 2:57:09 PM PST by Kaslin

To the legions of Trumpbots, nothing he says or does will change their mind about him, so running an article that shows once again what a bald-faced hypocrite he is won't matter a whit.

Still, it's amusing when Trump is caught with his pants down -- especially on the issue of immigration. According to the New York Times, Trump chose to staff his private club in Florida with foreign workers he arranged to come to the U.S. using the "H" visa program despite 300 Americans applying for those jobs.

Donald J. Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach describes itself as "one of the most highly regarded private clubs in the world," and it is not just the very-well-to-do who want to get in.

Since 2010, nearly 300 United States residents have applied or been referred for jobs as waiters, waitresses, cooks and housekeepers there. But according to federal records, only 17 have been hired.

In all but a handful of cases, Mar-a-Lago sought to fill the jobs with hundreds of foreign guest workers from Romania and other countries.

In his quest for the Republican presidential nomination, Mr. Trump has stoked his crowds by promising to bring back jobs that have been snatched by illegal immigrants or outsourced by corporations, and voters worried about immigration have been his strongest backers.

But he has also pursued more than 500 visas for foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago since 2010, according to the United States Department of Labor, while hundreds of domestic applicants failed to get the same jobs.

The visas are issued through one of a handful of legal and often-debated programs through which employers can temporarily hire foreign workers when American labor is not available. As part of its applications for the visas submitted to the Labor Department, Mr. Trump's Mar-a-Lago attested that in the vast majority of cases it was unable to fill the positions with American workers, or, as he told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" in September, "getting help in Palm Beach during the season is almost impossible."

Except in this case, 300 Americans were ready and willing to work, but Trump chose to hire cheaper, foreign labor.

Charles Cooke of NRO:

So what's Trump's excuse? That he's a businessman and that these are the realities on the ground? That, I'm afraid, won't wash. When Disney behaved like this, there was a loud and sustained outcry from . . . well, no less than Donald Trump himself.

In an interview with Breitbart, Trump argued that Disney should be forced to rehire any Americans it had overlooked or replaced. Trump also said this:

If I am President, I will not issue any H-1B visas to companies that replace American workers and my Department of Justice will pursue action against them.

And he offered this critique of expanding the "H" program:

It would allow any company in America to replace any worker with cheaper foreign labor. It legalizes job theft. It gives companies the legal right to pass over Americans, displace Americans, or directly replace Americans for good-paying middle class jobs.

This attitude is is a popular one among Trump's supporters. Indeed, Breitbart's emissary to the Trump campaign, Matthew Boyle, has argued that "what Disney did - with the help of the U.S. government's lax H1B immigration and visa policies - was awful." Moreover, he has praised Trump for supposedly standing against it:

This is perhaps one of the most under-discussed issues in the 2016 GOP presidential primary election. Frontrunner Donald Trump's immigration reform plan details exactly how he would fix this problem if he's elected president.

He wants to "increase" the "prevailing wage for H-1Bs," one subsection of his plan lays out.

Trump also wants a "requirement to hire American workers first."

And yet, by Trump's own logic, the H-2B program that he so heavily used is even more egregious than the H-1Bs system that Disney took advantage of. Why? Well, because unlike H-1Bs - which can in theory be used to recruit skilled workers - H-2Bs are aimed directly at the bottom of the economic ladder.

Last month, Trump made the observation that he "could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters." He reiterated that sentiment yesterday. So a revelation like this is hardly the silver bullet that would take him down.

But it's interesting that his most rabid supporters are so oblivious to the reality that is Donald Trump that they would probably thank him if he replaced them with a foreign worker.

Immigration: You seem to think he’s an immigration hardliner, and he’s certainly pretending to be. But why can’t you see through it? He condemned Mitt Romney as an immigration hardliner in 2012 and favored comprehensive immigration reform. He told Bill O’Reilly he was in favor of a “path to citizenship” for 30 million illegal immigrants:

Trump: You have to give them a path. You have 20 million, 30 million, nobody knows what it is. It used to be 11 million. Now, today I hear it’s 11, but I don’t think it’s 11. I actually heard you probably have 30 million. You have to give them a path, and you have to make it possible for them to succeed. You have to do that.

They’re relentless too. There’s no telling how many times they’ll return to this folly.
They get on a topic and they’re like Rainman with a spilled box of toothpicks.

Funny how you can rationalize everything away...

How about all those foreign workers that built his “exotic” buildings? They were needed to the “exotic” construction???

Trump being a businessman excuses everything it seems.

Praising low life communists that will damage a large number of peoples lives because doing business called for it is a-okay...

Donating big bucks to Hillary’s senate campaign and to the Clinton foundation was just doing good business. Never mind the consequences for everyone else...

Buying politicians and therefore engaging in political corrupt is simply how business is done. Trump even brags about it.

Trying to take someones private property using eminent domain for your personal gain is just how business is done you say...

Hiring illegals and foreigners to make a buck is just how business is done...

Perhaps we should want someone who does “business” differently.

"Except in this case, 300 Americans were ready and willing to work, but Trump chose to hire cheaper foreign labor."

How does anybody know what Trump will do as POTUS?

Screaming "Liar! Liar! Non-nee boo boo nobody likes you!" is how Trump avoids having to answer or be specific about anything.

This hopey- changey "I'm a very popular celebrty outsider who will fix everything.", (Ignore that I have past leftist tendencies, and have limited knowledge of the Constitution), routine has been done before- See Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura- How did they work out?

I pray people wake up.

You do realize that insufferable elitists like you are a key factor in Trump's rise?

Thanks for your key role in his success, Byron

Now that is a prime example of how you want to learn to write a persuasive essay. Nothing beats a loaded line of crap to really win someone over to your side.

It looks like Rubio wants to help by tripling the number of foreign workers!

Nah....nobody that supports Trump cares about his use of 200 illegal aliens to build Trump Towers and or how he then "stiffed them" of pay, resulting in a 20 year lawsuit.....and they don't care that The Donald prefers to hire lower waged Foreigners instead of Americans for his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.........or even that he had illegal aliens (Mexicans) working to build his hotel down from the White House just last year.

Nope.....all that they care about is Trump's "talk" about building a "great wall".........and how he's "the only one" who's going to protect us Americans from all the foreigners and illegals coming in to take our jobs. It's gonna be GREAT........... ROFL

"insufferable elitists"

Trump: "We love the poorly educated"

ROFL! He's so blatant. And his supporters are so blinded by wealth and celebrity.

I give him credit though- he is dazzling them with BS.

My understanding is these H 1 workers are hired for the “season” ie the winter months when all the rich folks who are members of the club want to be there. Three months of the year. In other words, temporary workers. Hard to get good Americans for these jobs on a temp basis.
I did read a story about Trump wanting to make his long time butler the concierge of this place. The butler refused the job, saying he just wanted to be Trump’s butler for the rest of his life.

But we are just supposed to read the headlines, buy the spin, and not even think about the “rest of the story”.

Staffing that particular property is not equivalent to hiring a cleaning crew for a Motel 6.

I imagine it would be difficult to recruit the caliber of employee needed from local hospitality workers, who would almost certainly NOT even apply for a seasonal position, given their proven ability to command premium wages for full time positions.

Not at the wages you're willing to pay, The Donald - so like every Free Traitor who whines about finding workers, you hop on the Cheap Labor Express.
