Chris Christie Endorses Donald Trump
The New York Times ^ | February 25, 2016 | Staff

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey endorsed Donald J. Trump on Friday, a major turn in a wild race and one that gives the New York businessman a major boost as he heads into the pivotal Super Tuesday contests.

Mr. Christie was a candidate himself until he came in sixth place in New Hampshire’s primary. But his backing of Mr. Trump comes after weeks of him saying that it was time for the “entertainment” portion of the race to end, and as he had said that the type of executive leadership that a governor has is important.

And, yes, I do think a number of things need to be burned down. But equally I know that something must be built or rebuilt on the burnt ground. In other words, it is one thing to despise the current administration, which I do, and to be disheartened and angry with the republican opposition to it, which I am, but another to be confident that what comes next will actually be better. Caution is in order.

Solid post, I agree with you entirely.

Indeed, if we burn it down we best make sure it gets rebuilt properly.

Can it or will it be done, I don't know. But one thing is for sure, it looks like we don't have a choice, seems to me it's better now rather than later.

The longer we wait the more difficult the task will be, imo.

Thanks for a great post, that's the FR I love and miss.

“rump did not run in the Reform party. How is applying and then withdrawing from the race granting you election politicking experience????”

Tomato-Tomato. With trump (and the pathetic trumpster divers), they don’t care about facts.

The FACT is that Trump GOT votes in his California primary. THAT is called running for election in anyone’s book.... and that was in 1999, so Trumpster has decade old electoral experience.

Now run along and prepare this sacrificial charlatan for Hillary.

"... those folks I know who watched the debate (none of them media types, GOPe types, etc.) thought Rubio was totally off-putting, juvenile, and ridiculous. I think Rubio hurt himself, but it’s going to be a delayed reaction before people realize it."

I think all those folks see through rose colored glasses. Trump was about as off-putting, juvenile, and ridiculous as one could get.

Getting votes by just having your name on a ballot (did he do debates?) is not the same as what he is doing right now. I am sorry, if Trump ran for a short time like 2 decades ago and does this now? He is some sort of genius at this then.

You are seriously saying that that past experience prepared him for this election so well and that is why he is on top?

“You are seriously saying that that past experience prepared him for this election so well and that is why he is on top? “

No, dummy. It was YOU who claimed that Trump never had election experience... I was just straightening the facts from your lies.

That said, Trump has even longer history of BUYING politicians, so he had even no need for elections. Now, he wants to expand his wealth... consider that his “billionaire” worth is peanuts compared to the Gates and the Zukerbergs.

I would prefer to see the remaining contenders focusing their criticisms on the dems and emphasizing the positives of their respective positions/remedies for what is wrong in this country. I despise the character attacks each of the top three have delivered (and they are all guilty) against each other. To me in doing so they are telegraphing their disrespect for the intelligence and judgment of the electorate that is now paying attention and, at the same time, handing over tons of ammunition to the dems for use in the fall. Let us hear what you will do, and then let us decide who makes the most sense.

Is this about individual ambition and achievement or is it about the wellbeing of the nation? I am not overly impressed with any of the three at this point.

Maybe Crispy, Trump, and Obama can have a group hug and declare their everlasting bro love for each other. Then they can have a group picture with windswept hair.

...Thank you for remembering Hillary is the opposition. I’m a Trump advocate but had Cruz gotten the nod I would have been behind him 100% (ok, 99% anyway). We are not each other’s enemies - we didn’t get Bush because we stuck together, others have fallen by the wayside - we now have Trump, Cruz, Rubio. Let’s hope one of them will be President but they WON’T be if those who want the one not nominated say “well, he wasn’t my choice so I’m not voting, nyeh”.....

As a Cruzer, That’s true but I voted the last 2 times holding my nose. This time in the general, I’ll vote the R expecting it very well will be Trump.

I’m expecting failure internationally and domestically.

I almost can’t wait to see who Trump is going to internationally insult.

So what happens now? Will the Mexican government release all their prisoners as a welcome to Mr Trmp

Christie couldn't even win in NJ if there was an election today.

And do you think New Yorkers HAVE EVER CARED what a governor of New Jersey thinks? He might as well be governor of Saudi Arabia to them.

Yes, how come the double standard? Trump and his supporters can say anything, but when it comes to anyone else they are littles snowflakes. Sounds exactly like liberals.

The Establishment and the Media have been choosing our Presidents for us for many years....Looks like the PEOPLE are telling them “no more”....As much as I dislike Sanders, his election would seem more “legit” than Hillary’s (just threw up in my mouth).
Same with Trump or Cruz as they both are hated by the self anointed “smartest guys in the room”.

In other words, it is one thing to despise the current administration, which I do, and to be disheartened and angry with the republican opposition to it, which I am, but another to be confident that what comes next will actually be better. Caution is in order.

I think that is one of the main ingredients for Trump's popularity. I know early on I was chortling with glee at his relentless exposure of the Establishment, but as time is passing, I'm getting more alarmed at what he seems to be turning into.

It's not just a political party that needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt - it's the entire system that has been irrevocably corrupted, perverted and fundamentally transformed in this post-Constitutional country via the velvet coup that we ignored.

Indeed, what comes after razing a corrupt government and their institutions and parties to the ground is historically, much worse for the mobs of people who put their faith in strong men to do so.

Caution indeed, but too many have tossed that to the wind. A zealous mob that gets more and more excited when insults and personal assaults are offered by their chosen ruler against fellow candidates in their own party, is a very frightening portent of what will come later. A mob often mimics the spirit exhibited by their chosen leader.

I'm not too hopeful for what may come after the necessary bulldozing of the Establishment, considering a majority of us cannot even agree on what the definition of freedom, Conservatism or foundational principles are. The vitriol expressed on this board in the last week alone against devout Christians indicates that the once respected moral values that made a Republic possible, no longer exist in enough of this people to maintain one.

Exactly. We have to be careful. And yet, LVRon is also right; time is flying. So, Donald, Ted, Marco, knock it off! Get serious. Talk substance.

The only way this is going to happen is for their supporters to shout this at them, starting here on FR and reverberating to other places.

Trump has endorsements from across the GOP. He is the broad-based candidate who can best unite the party.
