Trump: My immigration plans aren't set in stone; Parts are "negotiable"
Politico ^ | 03/01/2016 | Hanna Trudo

Posted on 03/01/2016 8:03:10 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Donald Trump says parts of his immigration proposals are “negotiable,” but only minor details about his border wall.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday night, Trump responded to a question about a recent claim, first introduced by BuzzFeed earlier in the day, that he told The New York Times editorial board in an off-the-record tape-recorded meeting that he may not follow through with his proposed immigration measures if he is elected president.

“The New York Times is claiming today that they had an off-the-record conversation with you in January,” Hannity started.

“We had a board meeting, it was off-the-record, suddenly they leak it, it’s all over the place,” Trump said.

“They said it’s negotiable on the wall,” Hannity said in reference to Trump’s stance on Mexican immigration and his oft-stated promise to build a border wall.

“By the way it is negotiable. Things are negotiable,” Trump said. “I’ll make the wall 2 feet shorter or something.”

Trump was quick to add that the negotiation does not include nixing the idea altogether.

“Building it? Not negotiable.”

Would it be negotiable about the 11 million?” Hannity pressed. “Maybe let some people stay if they register in a period of time?”

“I would say this,” Trump answered. “We will work out some system that’s fair, but we either have a country or we don’t. We need a border. We need a wall.”

The NY Times has enough news reporting integrity to fill a thimble.

Did Odunga ever give the LA Times permission to release the Khalidi party tape?

And the GOP/Reps have given obama everything he’s ever asked for and you complain of Trump making deals?

Positions and statements merely a year ago made by any candidate would have over for that candidate among conservatives are not only excused but many times, cheered now that the Don says them
Threatening the press with lawsuits
Praise for Planned Parenthood
Support for the Obamacare mandate
Past support for Universal healthcare...
The list goes on

Trump is saying what he has to in order to close the deal.

In the Fall, he will be saying whatever he has to in order to close that deal.

I am reminded of the end of a Simpson’s episode where Homer has suffered a particularly devastating loss, and Marge goes down to the basement and sees his shadow playing against the wall, as if he were hanging from the joists. She goes downstairs to find him batting at a hanging light bulb, and Homer says “My only remaining joy is batting at this stupid light bulb”.

In the Fall, my only remaining joy will be telling people “I Told You So”. It’s not much, but it’s something...

It’s going to be like the ending of “The Usual Suspects”. Seems obvious in hindsight.

Trump sees the constitution as negotiable too.

“Cruz has been on record as early as 2011 as wanting a wall/fence along the southern border.”

And when he doesn’t get it built his cultist followers will be the first to be angry....blah blah blah.

Or whatever cliched line you guys use.

“So, you could say that Drumpf stole Cruz’s idea.”

That is stupid, even for a Cruz supporter. If Trump hadn’t made it a central issue, Cruz wouldn’t even be touch it past anything more than some position paper from 5 years ago.

” Drumpf is Donald’s original family name, one he should be proud of.”

And Rafael is Cruz’s REAL first name. What’s your point? Trump uses the surname his family changed it to likely a century ago, Cruz says his name is Ted.

You watch one left-wing John Oliver rant and all of a sudden you are repeating his BS here. Good job!

Show me once where I have ever insulted Donald Trump. I have said that I don’t trust his promises because I have no solid track record to base that trust on.

Trump was not my first choice when this campaign started. My number one and number two were Cruz and Walker, and until June, my favorite was sometimes one and sometimes the other. In June I settled on Cruz.

Only Jeb Bush was unacceptable to me, and that’s because I knew he would be another McCain or Romney in the general election: just there because it was “his turn”.

I have said since July that although I would not vote for Trump in the primaries, I would vote for him if he got the nomination.

I also have praised Trump for taking on political correctness and bringing the issue of illegal immigration to the forefront.

There are things I like about Trump. I like a lot of his promises. But, as I stated before, I don’t know if he believes his own promises.

He is phenomenal when it comes to social media, he is a genius when it comes to controlling a news cycle, and he is masterful with his populist slogans and statements.

Is it because I don’t support him in the primary that you claim that I have Trump Derangement Syndrome, or is that just what you claim to anyone who might say something you disagree with at any given point?

He's stated that he is going to treat everyone "fairly", and that the only thing he will insist upon is building the wall.

But I'm curious - do you actually still expect him to round up and deport everyone who is here illegally?

We needed a strong, smart electorate to survive this. The results are in. We don’t have one.

Well then, he will find things far easier to get going? Is THAT what you are having a meltdown over? First Trump is going to be tha’ Hitlerz, now he is supposedly going to be too soft?

I am not the one here spinning like a top trying to rationalize the Superest, greatest, Yugest Businessman of All time who makes GREAT deals, so many we will get sick of winning... Talking about Negotiating over an Issue that has already been debated and signed into law and funding was approved for.

So you keep boxing shadows. I'll give you a 4.5 for effort but your emperor has no clothes. He's sold you down the river and he hasn't even got out of the primaries yet.

Yeah, I thought John Oliver’s Drumpf rant was dead on. I don’t care if he’s a liberal — the old broken clock metaphor works here. You Drumpf drones keep projecting what you want onto your malleable candidate. Just don’t be too heartbroken when you find yourself ripped off like so many of his other investors.

I don’t know if he will round them all up and send them back. He may have them register at area embassies or consulates. I am not sure. He may send them back as they’re arrested breaking our laws. Again, I am not sure.

I do believe he’ll cut off the welfare so that they will want to leave. He will send back a lot of the prisoners as they’re released. I do believe he’ll keep a lot of Syrian “refugees” from being dumped on us.

I don’t believe I’ll agree with all his decisions but it’ll be an improvement.
