Minnesota Democrats actually are a result of the merger of the larger Farmer-Labor Party with the smaller Democratic Party. Scandinavian liberalism with Eastern European socialism (from the Iron Range and the port of Duluth). Yes, the political history is a bit odd.

It’s something relatively new I think as my wife spoke English throughput her naturalization process. It was required and the testing was all in English.
A real reporter might have recorded the speeches and hired a translator, but that would mean committing an act of journalism.

I can understand it as a first language... but how could you possibly become a citizen without speaking English?
