Just as GOP front-runner Donald Trump continued to shore up delegates, winning several Super Tuesday states, some top Republican strategists and donors began to line up behind a new effort to halt the Trump campaign's momentum.
Jeb Bush's former communications director, Tim Miller, announced Tuesday that he would be joining the Our Principles PAC, an anti-Trump effort.
Miller will focus on opposition research that will go to expanding the PAC's advertising campaigns - including research targeting endorsers and surrogates like Chris Christie.
Other strategists and big name donors - like technology executive Meg Whitman, billionaire Todd Ricketts, and hedge fund manager Paul Singer - have also participated in the Our Principles PAC effort.
Whitman, who was Chris Christie's campaign finance co-chair, joined with Ricketts, Singer, and about 50 others on a call Tuesday afternoon to solicit funds for the super PAC.

A source with knowledge of the call told CBS News that the thinking behind was to stop Trump on March 15 with sustained, cohesive messaging.

The irony is delicious. Just as it looked like Trump was going to face serious questions about his conservative bona fides, along comes the GOPe to save him. The one thing that unites practically everyone is the hatred of the elites telling them what is good for them. The Romney’s, the Whitmans, the McCain’s the McConells, etc. etc. They can all shove it.
I am a Cruz guy but first and foremost I am an anti-establishment guy. They are the grand collaborators of our time and deserve to go the way of the Whigs.

Mark you, if the GOPe succeeds in using phony tricks to derail Trump, they will lose his supporters permanently.
The collection of losers lines up with the chief loser (Romney) to try to stop Trump.

The "loyalty oath" was never a commitment not to campaign against him in the primaries. That would be a stupid agreement for any of them to make - and if that was the agreement, then Trump broke it long ago with his attacks on Carson, Cruz, Rubio and Bush. How do you have a campaign where you never campaign against your opponents?
The loyalty oath had nothing in it preventing someone from attacking a rival.

I respectfully disagree. They did NOT expect Trump to be the eventual nominee and this caught them by surprise. If Trump signed an oath to support the nominee, the flip side is the GOPe should support whoever the nominee is.
It shouldn’t be “GOPe: We’ll support the nominee unless it’s Trump”.
Try it and they will kill you.
