Endgame for Rubio? Team Cruz promising to make a “strong play” for Florida
Hot Air ^

If they’re serious about this, it’s next to impossible to see how Rubio beats Trump there. And if Rubio doesn’t beat Trump there, it’s next to impossible to see how he’s the nominee, even at a brokered convention.

“For the candidates who have not yet won a state, who have not racked up significant delegates, I ask you to prayerfully consider uniting,” Cruz said.

Going forward, Cruz’s team plans to make a play for Florida, Rubio’s must-win state, hoping to benefit from a cage match there between Trump and Rubio.

“We will actively campaign in Florida,” said a senior Cruz aide. “A food fight between those two in Florida, that’s a good opportunity. We’re gonna make a strong play in Florida.”

I have a hard time believing he will really stand with us and not do what the guy who cut him a check for $10 million wants him to do. Sorry.

From reading your posts for the last few months, I get the feeling that you have a hard time believing anything not said by Trump - and anything he says you believe without question.

I think relying on Rubio and Kasich to win their respective states would be useless and out of Ted’s control.

The brokered convention strategy gives the anti-Trump candidate nothing but a Hail Mary pass of winning the nomination. I not only would want to avoid relying on what is increasingly looking like the most unlikely scenario, but I have no faith that anybody but Rubio would come out the winner in that situation.

In all probability, the only way someone other than Trump wins Florida is if Rubio quits and joins Cruz as his running mate. This would be bold and risky, but I think it’s the only realistic chance anyone has of beating Trump.

Since Rubio won’t do that, I think Cruz has to knock out Rubio immediately.

Trump won a lot of rural Minnesota. Rubio took the Twin cities.

Where did the guy who took 2nd in MN get his votes?

He will turn his fight to Cruz.
*******************************

He might, but that didn’t work for him last time. He found out that Cruz voters will go for Trump. He will just make Trump stronger if Cruz drops.

“How do you feel about Ted Cruz being up to his eyeballs in donor class money? I have a hard time believing he will really stand with us and not do what the guy who cut him a check for $10 million wants him to do. Sorry.”

You need to stop licking the bottom of Trump’s dog dung-filled shoes.

It might help if you actually researched Cruz’s positions and fights against the establishment before you make such ignorant statements.

Cruz needs to understand that Trump voters are not going to vote for him with his behavior. Cruzers say they aren’t voting for Trump, so it goes both ways.

In my suburban precinct it was Rubio 58, Cruz 48, Trump and Kasich 17, Carson 4.

Cruz has my vote in Florida...

Mine too. I always said that if Cruz made a zero play for Florida, I might vote Rubio to keep Trump from winning. However, I will be thrilled to be able to vote for Cruz now.

If you actually care about the immigration issue... You will gladly vote for Cruz.

If you’re just a God-hating, prayer-mocking Atheist... Thomas Jefferson would like you to read the first few paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence.

2nd in Florida, knocks out Rubio.

Well I am torn on this one. If it looks like Rubio has a chance to actually win in FL and Cruz doesn't, I'd rather have Rubio take it than Trump. But if it looks like Rubio is going to lose to Trump anyway, then the chance to knock Rubio out of the race would be a good deal...

I just don't want Cruz to give up the opportunity to actually gain delegates in other states in a futile attempt to win Florida if he doesn't have a realistic chance.

Cruz should be trying to help out knock out Rubio in FL.

Florida is winner-take-all. There are a lot of primaries, and time and money are limited. Coming in second instead of third in Florida does nothing for Cruz. Coming in third instead of second does not hurt Rubio much.

Not true. Cruz won districts 6, 7, and 8, covering the northern 80 percent of the state. Trump came in second in the 8th district (the NE quadrant of the state, basically), 33-28, and came in third in every other district (7 of the 8). Marco won Districts 1-5, which is the Twin Cities (Districts 3-5) and the bottom sixth of the state (1 and 2).

Do Trump folks just make it all up as they go?

I’m sure Cruz understands that Democrats aren’t going to vote for him anyway...so why even bother trying to get trump’s supporters?

Geez. Did I say all Trump won all of rural MN? No. Who peed in your wheaties? The wikipedia map shows Trump winning a lot of rural MN. If it’s wrong, it’s not on me.

So frustrating......why not go to Louisiana and the other 3 states this weekend if they are serious about taking out Rubio. What if Rubio wins some of those? Florida is about 6 or 7 states from now. I don’t get it at all.

I heard a rumor that instead of spending a bunch of money in Florida, Cruz is just going to walk across Biscayne Bay.

I don't think Trump won anything in MN. Cruz won the rural parts.
