As I recall my history President Kennedy wasn’t particularly admired or thought well of in 1963. He was no hero to the liberals, and I don’t think he had much support amongst conservatives. Yet everyone says the Democrats were certain to win. I know President Kennedy being assassinated contorted/distorted some people, but why the big change.
I gathered that most people shrugged their shoulders at the Kennedy administration, but then he is the greatest thing ever? Doesn’t fit?
Because after a shcoking death like that the nation tends to pull togther and remember they are one people. there is an old saying “do not speak ill of the dead” so people forget the bad and remmber the good. The optics of his young children ad the funeral were heartbreaking. There memory of Kenndy became seen thur rose colored glasses by 1964
In case you don't know "WHY," President Kennedy was in Dallas, Texas, was to smooth things out with the "liberal wing of the DemocRAT party."
When the principal of my high school announced dolefully that President Kennedy had been shot, a huge roar, a game-winning touchdown cheer, erupted from every classroom in the building. I remember the shock on the face of old Wilda LeBlanc, my geometry teacher, as she watched the students rise from their seats cheering and wander up and down the aisles greeting friends and marvelling at the wonderful news. I had no idea -- I was stunned at the rancor. This was leftover Civil War stuff, and I was a service brat from Indiana. Clearly, I'd missed a couple of secret passwords along the way.
