Trump: I'm 'Changing' My Position on Immigrant Visas
The Hill ^ | 3/3

Posted on 03/03/2016 7:16:20 PM PST by nickcarraway

Donald Trump on Thursday night said he's changing his stance on visas for highly skilled immigrant workers.

"I’m changing it, and I’m softening the position because we need to have talented people in this country," Trump said at the Fox News GOP debate in Michigan.

Trump's comments came after debate moderator Megyn Kelly raised the issue. Kelly noted that Trump had previously opposed those visas, saying they "decimate American workers," but appeared to change his position at an earlier CNBC debate. Trump said recipients of the visas go to high-profile U.S. universities and "desperately" want to remain in the country. He said they should be allowed to stay and work in places that need high-skilled workers, such as Silicon Valley.

"We need highly-skilled people in this country," Trump said. "For that purpose, we absolutely have to be able to keep the brainpower in this country."

Not sure what Trump said in response to what question or in what context but...

It’s got to be better than Cruz’s 500% increase in h1bs or Rubot’s amnesty and open borders.

Trump is WRONG. We have enough brains and talent and foreign students should go home and build up their own country. Shame on Trump.

Mrs. rktman made a (to my mind) a very astute observation. Her assessment is the gopE stratigizers set this up:

“Marco, you don’t stand a chance of winning, so you bait Trump into making his usual statements and Ted you step in and try to calm things down and seem like the rational can’t-i-date.” Sound reasonable? Kasich is just off in lala land. Kinda like linda grahm light.

"The evolution continues."

'Playing to the fantasy' continues also.

By November, the voters will end up with a New York liberal that is good at out-yelling other people.

Has any other debate used these film clips of the candidates to highlight the changes in positions?

And - does anybody doubt that they won't be used against Hillary?

I’d prefer that people coming to US universities on student visas return to their countries to make them into prosperous, free and stable trading partners. If they aren’t going to do that then they can be educated back in their own countries.

I certainly understand. I’m starting to feel like I did when Perot went to la la land. He quit because he said “The democrats have got it together”. Then he came back. I still voted for him but I knew it was over. All this is starting to look familiar.

That said, Trump needs to stop this s***.

Of course he’s “changing” his position. Ten bucks says Trump has hundreds of H1-B visa workers — if not more — on the payrolls of his various companies.

I used to be a Trump supporter. Do you know one of the major reasons why I started questioning him?

Because of all his close-minded robotic followers who attack anyone who questions him.

Like you, clown.

If I had any doubts, you have settled the issue for me.

I’m supporting Cruz all the way. And I’m working everyone I know against Trump, because he is already flip-flopping and setting us up for the big betrayal. How very “establishment” of him.

So good job, clown.

Just like he supported amnesty all the way up to June 2015 until he decided he would run as a Republican...then it suddenly changed and people accepted it as genuine. It’ll be a different reality show once all of the episodes of this series are done airing.

It was telling that Trump complimented Rubio's attitude on the immigration issue.

Of course he said he was more hard line than Rubio, but he did compliment him.

Were the terrorists of San Bernardino considered as ‘highly skilled?’

As long as its actual high skill people like doctors and not get abused, I’m ok with it.

There’s a film clip of him attacking conservatives and what we stand for from his Phoenix rally that hasn’t been used in a campaign ad to date. Why it has not been is beyond me.

We have highly-skilled people in this country. We don’t need to import more to suppress wages.
