President Obama energetically touted the success of the Affordable Care Act on Thursday, saying that an estimated 20 million people have gained health coverage since the law was passed in 2010.
During a trip to Milwaukee, Obama cited a new administration report attributing the increase in the number of insured Americans to provisions that created health insurance marketplaces where consumers can buy private plans, expanded Medicaid, required insurers to cover people with medical conditions and permitted young people to stay on their parents’ health plans until they turned 26.
The president’s trip was designed to reward Milwaukee for its success in signing up people for coverage. It won a competition called the Healthy Communities Challenge that involved 20 cities.
The administration described the drop in uninsured numbers as “historic.” In a statement, Sylvia Mathews Burwell, secretary of health and human services, said, “We have seen progress in the last six years that the country has sought for generations.”
Thursday’s report was an update of an HHS estimate last September, which found that 17.6 million uninsured adults had gained coverage as a result of the ACA. The new findings show that more than 6 million adults ages 19 to 25 have gained insurance under the law. Gains in coverage among previously uninsured adults were strong across all racial and ethnic groups, according to the report.

So 20,000,000 either got healthcare they cannot afford to use, or healthcare “ subsidies” that are really govt loans they will eventually have to pay back with interest if they ever dare to rise out of poverty
Coverage does not equal care. They mat have insurance but can they afford to use it, deductibles, co-pays?
How many got coverage thru expanded Medicaid? How many lost coverage due to ACA? We still have 30 million uninsured.

Horsepucky! My brother lost his coverage due to the fact he could not afford $800 plus monthly premium. He had an accident and is now facing over a million dollars in hospital costs.
As my tag line has long said, this is how socialist dictators like Obama measure the effectiveness of their programs. Not in how many are pleased with the care they receive, not in how costs are contained, and certainly not in how many choices they have when it comes to healthcare options.

So let me get this straight: You signed up millions of people by expanding Medicaid - which is “free welfare healthcare” and made it illegal not to have insurance and you could only get to 20 million?
My doctor told me this week she knew three doctors who were closing due to bammycare. She also noted she will be moving to a concierge bases practice. Soon, only the very rich will be able to afford a private physician.

We know that 20 million additional folks don’t have medical Insurance.....it’s just not possible. maybe 20 thousand signed up for Medicaid, Medicare, which are free anyway. Barry just help but LIE. Guy I know makes 40g a year his boss cancelled his healthcare, he now has a plan where he pays about 400 dollars a month and has to meet a deductable of 6000 dollars to even begin to use it
And in the end, how many will lose coverage when the insurance industry goes bankrupt.

You make a law then celebrate when people obey it? They’re covered because they were forced by law to obtain coverage.
