Funny, we really seemed to collapse when George Washington and James Madison and Andy Jackson and Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt “walled us off.” Yeah, the economy just sucked then (US went from 4th in the world to 1st in the world in production from 1865 to 1900, the whole time with tariffs). Employment shot up, average income shot up, Inventions were off the charts.

Funny isn't it? The two greatest capitalist success stories, Great Britain and the United States, both became world dominating superpowers behind tariff walls.
