Global warming fruit and veg shortage could lead to 1,200 extra UK deaths a year by 2050

Climate change could lead to more than 1,200 extra deaths a year in the UK by 2050 as global warming causes fruit and vegetable shortages, new research suggests.

The typical British diet will deteriorate as the effects of climate change hit crop production, resulting in supply shortages and pushing up prices, Oxford University researchers said.

Dr Marco Springmann from the Oxford Martin Programme on the Future of Food, said: "You could expect in the UK the reduction in fruit and vegetable consumption would be the number one risk factor.

“The immediate cause of the reduction in fruit and vegetable consumption are the climatic shocks: basically, less can be grown, that leads to farmers probably using more land, and also the prices go up.

“As a combination of less production and higher prices there will be a reduction in the consumption.”

Global warming, if it exists, would increase the amount of earth’s real estate capable of growing fruits and vegetables. But I suppose the irony is lost on the Chicken Little crowd.

Shouldn’t these tyrants be welcoming the culling of human population as a side effect?

As a farmer I would imagine that fruit and vegetable production would be on the rise in a GW scenario.

What about the actual deaths due to this madness?

Wasn’t the UK completely unprepared for harsh winters because of this lunacy about global warming? Weren’t there about 3,000 deaths due to cold two years in a row? 6000 elderly and poor people dead because they could not afford heating bills..
When is this madness going to stop? How many more people have to die?

Probably” the rising ocean levels will flood all the farm land with sea water” will be their next excuse.

1,200 “extra” deaths?

Hell, the infighting among Islamist warriors alone make up probably that many “extra” deaths in a day’s time, if you take into consideration “collateral damage”.

Bananas grown in Labrador, Canada, STILL sounds like a helluva deal.

Bananas grown in Labrador . . .

I think they would be happy just to be able to grow grapes again as the vikings did in the 10th century, the last time global warming was really rampant and widespread.

Golly, that must explain why tropical climates produce so little in the way of fruits and vegetables and why longer warm growing seasons have created so many famines. /s

You could draw a nice vertical line at about 1953, when Norman Borlaug first started his work in earnest on the Green Revolution. Leftists hate the guy with a purple passion. I wonder how many Freepers have even heard of him.
