Donald Trump Backs Out of CPAC
CNN ^ | 3/4/16 | Dana Bash & Tal Kopan

Posted on 03/04/2016 11:05:12 AM PST by KansasGirl

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump will no longer speak at the annual conservative confab CPAC this weekend, he announced Friday.

Trump was scheduled to speak at the annual gathering of the who's-who of the conservative world Saturday, but said he would be campaigning, instead.

In a statement, the Trump campaign said the GOP front-runner will instead attend rallies in Kansas and Florida.

"Because of this, he will not be able to speak at CPAC as he has done for many consecutive years," the campaign said. "Mr. Trump would like to thank Matt Schlapp and all of the executives at CPAC and looks forward to returning to next year, hopefully as president of the United States."

The American Conservative Union, the conference's organizers, said it was "disappointed."

"We are very disappointed Donald Trump has decided at the last minute to drop out of CPAC," the group said. "This comes at a critical time in our movement's history. His decision sends a clear message to grassroots conservatives."

But ACU said it remains "neutral" on the presidential race.

"CPAC is the heart and soul of the conservative movement and will be, with or without Mr. Trump," ACU said. "Since we invited him several months ago—and Mr. Trump accepted our invitation and terms —we made it clear all candidates would follow the same format. And now he is backing out."

CPAC's attitude towards Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller made me not care who did or didn't attend.

"CPAC keeps using the word "conservative" in their name- I do not think it really means what they want you to think it means."

I notice that the Trump campaign gave CPAC a release but did not broadcast it on Twitter.

It is very possible the Trump campaign faced a security threat at the venue, before Beck made his statement.

The quickly added new venues are safer than a venue staked out months in advance. Trump campaign never talks about security, for good reason. He is changing his schedule, which is wise.

Beck just stepped in it.

Is the small handed girlie-man afraid of losing Florida and Kansas... Cue the excuses from our resident Trump cultists.

I actually appreciate Trump coming. I would love to go but I would miss my caucus. I will catch up with the local videos that will no doubt be shown.

Really, Trump is the only non-politician talking about upholding our Constitution. While I do understand he has a lot of baggage, I do like his message.

I do like Cruz but he just sounds like another DC politician. While he has done some good things in the Senate, the DC money backing him worries me as he would be comprised as president. I still think he could continue to do good things in the Senate for us.

Forget Rubio, he has proven time and again he will get on his knees for the establishment and I want no part of him.

While I like Cruz, I've come to the conclusion that Donald Trump would far better to lead a movement of upholding our Constitution, as an outsider, than any other politician in the race. Our jobs would be to diligently hold Trump to that message and a continued pro-Constitutional movement in this country.

Government should fear us (as we are witnessing in Trump's message), not the other way around.

As near as I can tell, the major complaint is that Trump is not going to CPAC, so now they don't have the opportunity to grab splashy headlines by walking out and being rude to him.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. No rational person is going to attend a function where the attendees have announced they are going to be disrespectful to them.

Is it any wonder so many in middle America are turning their backs on the conservative movement? Hell, we really ARE the stupid party.

Besides, as Newt has said, the votes he needs are in Kansas, not in DC.

I voted for CRUZ and stand by my statement.

All conservative candidates should take TRUMP’S lead and boycott C-PAC. The ‘open-door, big tent’ C-PAC no longer embraces GOD, FAMILY, & COUNTRY.

Glenn Beck, the keynote speaker at CPAC, said that if he was at the debate last night he would have stabbed, and kept stabbing Trump. What a fruitcake, and it looks like CPAC is just an establishment run anti-Trump circus. There’s no real reason for him to be there, he’s better off campaigning in KS.

Why would they want him at CPAC? That’s for conservatives, not for frauds.

I absolutely agree. They should give him back his donation immediately.

Right? Don't you think so?

Interesting replies to your post. It helps explain why some defend Trump. They believe what they want to believe.

“Beck blew it and Cruz better get on it to disavow it. “

I seriously doubt Cruz will say a word about it. I could be wrong but Cruz has chosen to affiliate with some sleazy consultants during this campaign.

Glenn Beck today about Trump

“If I was close enough and had a knife, the stabbing just wouldn’t stop.”

Seriously, Beck needs to be wrapped in a White Overcoat and taken away.

He does know DT has SS protection??

Yeah, I posted a couple links just now to back up what I said, but I don’t expect it to matter. Last time I did that I got this response from a Trump supporter “Whoopie s**T, I’m not going to click on your stupid links”
