It's basically down to five likely options now... Establishment Hillary vs sincere Socialist Bernie... and opportunist (in the neutral sense of the term) Trump vs anti-big-govt Cruz vs the brokered convention GOPe nominee. The Establishment wins with Hillary, and she is ahead of Bernie thanks to Establishment "super-delegates"... The Establishment wins in the brokered convention, which seems more likely every week... The Establishment likely wins with Trump v Hillary, since Trump polls behind her currently and he has performed under polled numbers in most states...

To me, the best chance to beat the Establishment in both parties is Cruz, as much as Trump folks want to believe otherwise.

Each and every word of your #14 is the Gospel truth. I support Cruz but we would not have seen the iron curtain of the media shattered without Trump campaigning as Trump. What I would like to see is Trump's supporters being more magnanimous within the party in light of his probable impending victory. I don't get the point of why so many go out of their way to insult Cruz and the conservatives who support him.

My life does not depend on getting a job in politics or contracts from politics. I do know that people like to be asked for their vote and do not like to be bullied as to their vote.

Whether the ball carrier winds up being Trump (as seems likely) or Cruz (as I would prefer), that ball carrier is going to need a team effort. It is not a one-man game.

Your #14 is a thought-provoking post, FR at its best. Thanks for posting it.

I so hate GOPe I’m hanging in till March 15 so I can primary out Burr-NC (Rino) . The end my membership (40 years) . I’ll vote for the Rat if Burr does survive. That’s how ‘successful’ GOP is with the base. I cancel my party affiliation and vote for the Dem. And I’m the base. Burn it to the ground

I’m a Trumper but I am happy to see the elitist GOP Machine self destruct. I’d be happy to vote for Cruz against Clinton.

If they are not caucuses or his backyard, Cruz will have trouble getting a bellhop to carry his bags.

Fully agree, without Trump we would have already watched Cruz driven from the race and ¡Yeb! narrrowly gaining delegates on the way to his coronation.

March 2015 Cruz had a strategy that said there would be many candidates at the start. By March 2016 there would be 3 candidates left, 2 conservatives and 1 moderate flip-flopper.

Now Rubio will drop out and there will be 1 conservative and moderate Trump.

I voted for the Democrat against Cantor in the election before we successfully Cantorized him.

Sometimes it’s the only way.

I'm actually a little glad that Trump has hit a bit of a rough spot. He could definitely use a little humility and hopefully this will make him a better candidate going forward. I also hope that he can act a big more presidential. As a man and as somebody who lives in the New York area, I totally get Trump, but he needs to tone it down for the ladies and for the religious people in the center of the nation. He's turning a lot of them off
.................................................

Trump needs to spend less time at rallies and more time at debate prep preparing more substantive answers without the crudeness. He might need training with a dog shock collar and every time he veers into cringe worthy territory, he gets a shock. The moderators, Cruz, and Rubio will all be lobbing bait his way to lure him into the gutter. If this isn't fixed by Thursday night, there's a good chance Trump is done. And he just may deserve it.

He should even consider apologizing for the last debate. The comment about his penis size was just too absurd. How many people watching that immediately questioned if they could vote for such a man?

GOPe screwed us in 2012. Screwed us and gave us the collective finger in 2014. Anyone THEY would run is a loser already like President Romney is. No sense voting their candidate then so may as well vote to burn it to the ground

“— The biggest story line out of last night, though, is calamity for Marco Rubio. “

That’s something we can all celebrate. The death of the GOPe.

I think we need a forced marriage, a Trump/Cruz ticket.to unite the factions and kiss the GOPe goodbye. That’s really the only way to build a big enough base to make this a winning revolution.

Excellent metaphor. From some of your posts I would thought you to be totally anti Cruz, looks as though I have misjudged you. I apologize.

Meanwhile...Cruz’s law firm was donating to help 0bie/dems....and CRuz was busy bringing John Roberts to the Bush partay. So, stop with your nonsense.

As has been explained, countless times, Trump invited the sitting Senator of his home state to his wedding. A worldwide biz man/OWNER, with a guest list to match. (The only thing CRuz has ever *owned* is his govt checks.)

Clint Eastwood was also in attendance.

It’s a dead horse, dead.
