Republicans hoping to halt Donald J. Trump’s march to their party’s presidential nomination emerged from the weekend’s voting contests newly emboldened by Mr. Trump’s uneven electoral performance and by some nascent signs that he may be peaking with voters.
Outside groups are moving to deploy more than $10 million in new attack ads across Florida and millions more in Illinois, casting Mr. Trump as a liberal, a huckster and a draft dodger. Mr. Trump’s reed-thin organization appears to be catching up with him, suggesting he could be at a disadvantage if he is forced into a protracted slog for delegates.

Trump was called a racist. Now he is called a liberal or not a true conservative.
Now the story is that unless you believe in open borders and sanctuary cities you are not a true conservative. Unless you believe in spending taxpayer money to bring middle eastern Muslims to the U.S. you are not a conservative. Unless you oppose interrogating terrorists you are not a true conservative. Unless you believe in expanding the size and scope of the Federal government you are not a conservative. Unless you believe in total obedience and subservience to Obama and the Democrats you are not a conservative.
If Cruz gets the nomination, Hillary will be President. It’s pretty damned obvious.

24/7 nukes from the other candidates, Super PACs, the electronic and print media and, worst of all, the GOP. NO one could help but lose a few points under that. Cruz thinks his free ride time is actually him winning. Just wait til the turrets rotate toward him. Then Cruz loses the NBC cases. Or, if he doesn’t they make him out to be a hateable, knuckle dragging, speaking in tongues whacko. Hillary gets indicted and Romney steals the convention and STILL loses to Sanders.
We have a chance to save the Nation right now. I guess not enough people care.

Since most on Free Republic are not Virginians and seem to have political memories that don’t stretch back to 1994, consider what the establishment will do if it uses Ted as a tool to demolish Trump. In 1994, Virginia Republican voters chose Ollie North to challenge the incumbent Democrat US Senator Chuck Robb. All indications were that Ollie would win the general election. The party establishment found this to be intolerable and the rest is history. A certified member of the Virginia GOPe, Marshall Coleman launched an independent campaign against Ollie. He was endorsed by Senator John Warner and funded by the Northern Virginia RINO cabal. The result: a new term for Chuck Robb, which was the GOPe plan all along. I like Ted - a lot. However, alliances with the GOPe only run in one direction and they want Hillary.
Yes, Cruz is being used, they will never allow him the nomination either.
Oh yes, an excellent reminder of the duplicity of the GOPe!
My thinking is the establishment anti-Trump ad buys, along with their media hit pieces and their manipulated polls are taking there toll.
Remember, we are in a period where voters have demonstrated they can be manipulated, as evidenced by electing Obama twice.
That being said, I don't think any rise in the Cruz numbers are actually due to the candidate and if Trump can step up his connection with voters, odds favor victory.
