What they call “juvenile nastiness” to me has always seemed like part of a strategy. You don’t get to be as successful at Donald Trump has been without knowing how to decimiate your opposition, and when there were 17 candidates, his job was to get rid of as many as possible as quickly as possible. The “low energy “stragegy against Jeb! was especially effective, since Jeb! had incredible financial support and the GOPe machine behind him. But rather than trying to out-spend or out-maneuver him on Jeb!s turf, he marginalized him and ran out the clock with Jeb! on defense.
As the race comes down to the “final few” the strategy had to change, and think about how narrow the margin over Cruz might have become if Trump continued to call him a “good guy” and all. Cruz put the weapon in Trumps hands when the Iowa Dirty Tricks occurred, and the “Lyin’ Ted” handle stuck. As did “Little Marco” and forcing Rubio to try to out-Trump Trump, he marginalized Rubio as well.
Point is, I don’t think these were just the product of a hot-head who can’t control his mouth or emotions. Trump had a plan in mind and just let his mouth and emotions naturally follow suit.
Beating Mitt and the GOPe is a lot harder than beating Hillary. If Trump can win the nomination the general election is a piece of cake.
