Seeing Donald Trump as vulnerable, GOP elites now eye a contested convention
Washington Post ^ | March 7, 2016

The presentation is an 11th-hour rebuttal to the fatalism permeating the Republican establishment: Slide by slide, state by state, it calculates how Donald Trump could be denied the presidential nomination.

Marco Rubio wins Florida. John Kasich wins Ohio. Ted Cruz notches victories in the Midwest and Mountain West. And the results in California and other states are jumbled enough to leave Trump three dozen delegates short of the 1,237 required — forcing a contested convention in Cleveland in July.

The slide show, shared with The Washington Post by two operatives advising one of a handful of anti-Trump super PACs, encapsulates the newly emboldened view of many GOP leaders and donors. They see a clearer path to stopping Trump since his two losses and two narrower-than-expected wins in Saturday’s contests.

The GOPe can’t see its own failures and didn’t see the Trump phenomena for what it was. Yet now it arrogantly thinks it can manipulate the convention to get the outcome it wants.

GOPe is more nervous than anything that their perks will dry up once President Trump enters office.

I predict a bigger meltdown than if EBTs were cut off.

The GOP wants this and that is why they have spent so much money to take Trump out. They have even joined forces with Cruz.
Once Cruz does their dirty work they will stab him in the back and for some reason Cruz and some of his supporters are not seeing this or refuse to see this.

Trump rings in Reagan Dems and the GOP would rather pander to homosexuals cross dressers, and the open border crowd like Club for Growth and Chamber of Commerce.

For the puppetmasters, it's survival. They'd rather lose the election to fellow elitist backstabber hillary than lose control of the Republican Party. Do you really think they care if they steal the nomination and the result is out-of-control anger and chaos?

Romney might be the most disgusting person ever in US politics.

Trump is already planning for his 3’d party run. That is what the getting his supporters to pledge to vote for him...no matter what, is all about.

Republican Party - an extinct U.S. political party that was founded by the Abolitionist Movement in the 1850’s, and played a major role in American political life, prior to committing suicide in 2016.

Shouldn’t the GOP convention be held soewhere more conservative?

Trump says the way to avoid the convention struggle is to get the knockout, which he will.

Even if they have to broker it they have to place Trump and Cruz on the top of the ticket, or they will burn down the party.

A contested convention will lead to a Hitlery win. When the ballot box no longer works, there is but one alternative.

Welcome Hillary and a democrat senate. SCOTUS is screwed.

If they really want a contested convention they need to start saying nice things about all candidates right now. Muzzle Lindsey the attack poodle and all other anti-republican-candidate talk.

Even without a contested convention they should be talking up ALL republican candidates rather than tearing them down. Let voters know they respect our decision rather than want to ignore it. Talk about why Rubio is the right guy and convince us the the establishment understands and cares about our concerns rather than about how Cruz/Trump is evil, then let us decide.

That’s what a real “party of the people and for the people” would do.

Here in Nevada—also a strong Mormon state—the sentiment is to stay with Trump—at all costs-—and that Romney should be drummed out of the church for his slimy behavior.
