Hillary Clinton would crush Donald Trump in a New York State general election matchup: poll
NY Daily News ^ | March 7, 2016 | Adam Edelman

Despite holding a wide lead among Republican New York voters in the race for the GOP nomination, Donald Trump would get crushed in a hypothetical general election matchup with Hillary Clinton in the state, a new poll released Monday shows.

Clinton would beat the outspoken real estate magnate in the Empire State 57% to 34%, the latest Siena Research Institute poll found.

In such a matchup, registered Democrats overwhelmingly support the former secretary of state (80% to 15%), and registered Republicans overwhelmingly support the Trump (71%, to 19%), while independent voters lean toward Clinton (45% to 38%), according to the poll.

The former secretary of state would also beat Marco Rubio (56% to 35%), Ted Cruz (58% to 33%) and John Kasich (49% to 42%), who would give Clinton her best competition, the poll of 800 registered New York voters showed.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders also handily beat all of the Republican challengers, including Trump, in hypothetical general election matchups in the state, the poll found.

"Clinton leads Trump 57-34, almost identical to Sanders' 57-33 lead over Trump," pollster Steve Greenberg said in a statement. "Kasich has made the most headway in general election matchups against the Democrats. Sanders leads Kasich by 19 points, down from 30 points last month, and he comes within seven points of Clinton, 49-42."

And the NY Daily News is a thriving news paper. Neither that statement nor this poll are credible to me. I believe Hillary would win NY because, at this point, NY would vote for a rock if you put it in a suit with a “D” by its name. But Trump might come pretty close to beating said rock.

Thanks for pointing that out. I don’t see Kasich being more popular in NY than Trump.

I laugh when the Trump supports talk about winning NY/NJ.

We all know of him here and there's no way NYC or Trenton would vote for him. He has most of his enemies in those two states.

She would crush him in the general. NY Liberal vs. NY Liberal.

To: justlittleoleme; The Mayor

If ANY GOP cold take NYState, it’s Trump.

Cruz will not.

And he could bring in a sweep in NY. And maybe get Carl Paladino to run again for Governor. I know people who know him personally, and he is the REAL DEAL. He has way too much class and dignity to be a successful politician, though- but Trump would sweep him in AND A slew of GOP.

Then maybe would could start to clean out the cesspool that is Albany (move the capital to Buffalo!!!)

New York is the most liberal state in the US. New Yorkers are the most liberal people in the US. MA, CA, IL, MD, and NJ are all close runners up, but NY is still #1.

The phrase "New York Values" means hard left statism. Speech control, gun control, wealth confiscation and largesse to buy votes, the homosexual agenda, hatred of white middle class males, blacks given special privileges, etc.

No, I agree. I can't see any republican winning in NY.

And Jimmie Carter was 25 ahead of Reagan too. Most of this stuff is meaningless unless we have some internals of not just registers voters, but also for the weighting.
