Simple question. What makes you think that Kasich or Rubio can send their delegates to Cruz? These delegates are pledged to vote for the candidates that their voters selected on the first ballot - Kasich or Rubio’s desires notwithstanding.

Cruz can and I think will win this thing on his own, and can do so whether Rubio and Kasich drop out before or after March 15. But, no question, it is likely to be a close thing.

If Cruz thought he could win the primaries he would be insisting that the candidate with the most delegates get the nom. Instead he’s day dreaming about picking up Rubio’s and Kasich’s delegates. It’s not going to happen. Rubio wants a political future in FL and won’t want his finger prints on any part of a convention brawl. He’ll release his delegates and go home to FL.

Technically, Rubio and Kasich’s delegates would be unpledged if they drop out before the convention. However, if Cruz got their endorsement (and considering the #NeverTrump movement), custom dictates that their delegates (at least surely most, if not all) would pledge themselves to the endorsed candidate.

Typically that is true, until the first ballot produces no winner...I’m not sure, but state parties might rule what happens to the liberty of the state delegates. I think it most likely that a floor fight will release many delegates from their pledges...
