I was wrong about Donald Trump: Camille Paglia
Salon ^ | March 10,2016 | CAMILLE PAGLIA

Posted on 03/10/2016 7:58:54 AM PST by Hojczyk

From my perspective as a fervent supporter of the ruggedly honest and principled Bernie Sanders, Trump with his pragmatic real-life record is a far more palatable national figure than Ted Cruz, whose unctuous, vainglorious professions of Christian piety don’t pass the smell test. Trump is a blunt, no-crap mensch, while Cruz is a ham actor, doling out fake compassion like chopped liver.

Cruz’s lugubrious, weirdly womanish face, with its prim, tight smile and mawkishly appealing puppy-dog eyebrows, is like a waxen mask, always on the verge of melting. This guy doesn’t know who the hell he is—and the White House is no place for him and us to find out.

But only a few weeks after that interview of mine in Salon, I suddenly realized that Trump’s candidacy had a broad support that few had expected or discerned. The agent of my revelation was a hilariously scathing, viral Web blog video posted by Diamond and Silk–Lynette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, two African-American sisters and former Democrats in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

If Trump wins the White House, that no-holds-barred video will go down in history as “the shot heard round the world,” Ralph Waldo Emerson’s phrase for the first salvo of the American Revolution by rural insurgents at Concord. The video signaled a popular uprising and furious pushback against the major media and political elites, who had controlled the national agenda and messaging for far too long.

I was wrong about Donald Trump: Camille Paglia on the GOP front-runner’s refreshing candor (and his impetuousness, too)

I agree with this:
“Cruz’s lugubrious, weirdly womanish face, with its prim, tight smile”

I wish Cruz had a better look and spoke with a deeper voice. But if that’s the biggest concern we have...then I can live with that.

Hell I guess we could all make fun of Trump’s hair as well if we are going to resort to attacking the way they look. But looks do matter—especially today.

See more liberals loving Trump. Hmmmmm......

Do you think he won her over by his conservative arguments that he never articulates? Or maybe it’s his common themes he shares with Bernie Sanders.

If we want to win at all costs, let’s just all vote for Hillary. Then we can say we voted for the winner.

Paglia’s analysis is always thought-provoking even if I don’t agree with her. She was a staunch defender of Sarah Palin, and has turned the feminist orthodoxy on it’s head many times.

In this case, she is brilliantly correct.

““Cruz’s lugubrious, weirdly womanish face, with its prim, tight smile””

Camille Paglia is the last person I would expect to attack someone based on looks.

What is next: Trump attacking Cruz’s hair style?

Another spot-on brilliant analysis by Paglia, who tweaks the nose of the feminist movement far more than any right-wing author could ever do.

No it is time to worry why ?
Once he gets the nomination they are going to unload. FRs who back the guy are going to very busy spending all their time defending him .

*************

In today’s instant info that is to some degree relevant. I suspect Cruz will have a comb over
like Trump in a few years based upon the balding around his part line in front. Stand them side
by side and Trump is about 7” taller even with Cruz’s cowboy boots.

Cruz is a ham actor

Spot on. He's a total phony--the real con man in this race. Pure snake oil salesman. And by all accounts an insufferable a-hole to boot. Yecch.

But I think she has a point.

I think a lot of shallow people, especially of the female persuasion, are subconsciously turned off by Cruz demeanor and delivery. It’s a definite drawback for him. I’m saying this as a Cruz admirer.

Tuned Mortormouth out as soon as she called Sanders ‘’ruggedly honest and principled’’. And people say this chick has brains.

“From my perspective as a fervent supporter of the ruggedly honest and principled Bernie Sanders”

So she supports Bernie because he’s honest and principled?

That’s really moronic of Paglia.

I’m sue Lenin was honest and principled as was Osama bin Laden, and many other monsters throughout history.

It’s not being principled that matters, but the principles that you’re principled about that does.
