I agree with LSUfan that withholding support for a good law because of its name is intellectually lazy. Furthermore, I think defending your assertion by calling a law that punishes support for terrorism at the state level an “incremental increases of government power” is intellectually crippled, especially in light of or central government’s reluctance to recognize, much less aggressively prosecute, those who promote and support Islamic jihad. There is no more proper role of government than prosecuting Islamic terror when the federal government systematically refused to do it.
The current scare over "terrorism" in our "homeland" is a useful tool of tyrants in waiting. If this were not so, we would simply deport dangerous foreigners and stop admitting new ones. That could be done in a month, but is not even discussed. Why not? Rather than correct the problem we are intentionally creating, we are building the framework for a police state that threatens the freedom of American citizens whom it purports to protect.
