Ted Cruz: Closet Pentecostal
East Orlando Post ^ | March 11, 2016 | Jacob Engels

Posted on 03/11/2016 7:15:16 AM PST by freedomjusticeruleoflaw

While Ted Cruz proudly proclaims he is an Evangelical Christian, his campaign takes pains to hide the truth that Cruz and his pastor father, Rafael Cruz are Pentecostal Christians, a fact further hidden by having Ted and Heidi Cruz’s belong to the congregation of First Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist church in Houston, as their home church. Both Cruz’s parents, his father Rafael a Cuban-born immigrant, and his mother Eleanor, born in Wilmington, Delaware, grew up in Catholic families. Both were among the millions of that left the Catholic Church since the 1960s to embrace Pentecostalism, a Christian movement estimated to make up 4.4 percent of the U.S. population, accounting for some 13 percent of evangelical churches in the United States. - See more at: http://eastorlandopost.com/ted-cruz-closet-pentecostal#sthash.M95M8HTV.dpuf

Anointed, but not eligible. Seems a bit strange to me.

That’s the only reason I posted it. I figured that it needed some discussion.

Pentecostals are a type of evangelical. Example: Assembly of God

As if that’s somehow... unacceptable?

Well, at least for a leftist.

Exactly.

This is coming from people who have no idea what a Pentecostal or Evangelical Christian is.

Yes, we should definitely try to create controversy and attack him if if his denomination isn't what ours is.

Properly, AoG has Pentecostal roots, but is under the broader umbrella of "Charismatic." Pentecostals are a distinct denominational group(s).

Interestingly, the Wesley's of Methodism are the true pioneers of this movement.

Articles like that make me wonder what an ‘evangelical’ is.

I’ve been to a Pentecostal service. I know a few Pentecostals. Great folks. Not my style of worship but I would lump them in with evangelicals pretty quickly.

I agree. Why is this news? Romney is a mormon and their views are very fair outside mainstream American Protestantism or Catholicism, and he was the nominee. Clearly this is an effort to make him appear mentally unstable, because of his faith, despicable really. If you don’t like his policies and don’t trust him don’t vote for him. Easy.

So what have you determined is the official religion of the United States?

What religions do you feel are a disqualifying factor to be President?

The Bible has nothing to do with this. The Cruz family is obviously religious, probably pious, and definitely church goers. Ok, does Ted tithe? Nope. Do we need someone convinced that he is on a mission from God to run this country? Maybe. But I can’t help but think proselytizing without perfection is a recipe for disaster.

Yep. I’m Assembly of God. I’m Pentecostal and Evangelical. I.e., I believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit as experienced at Pentecost and I believe in evangelizing, spreading the gospel through word and deed.

How scary!

If he is Pentecostal, and is trying to hide that fact, it will be an issue at some point. I would argue that the majority of Christians don’t embrace speaking in tongues.

Ok, which are they? Rafael was Catholic and now Pentecostal. Ted was Pentecostal and now Baptist. He is hiding now in the Baptist Church?? What a non story or one that has been known for a long time. I guess with his name he should be a Catholic that does not believe in anything the Catholic Church teaches. Or is that only Supreme Court Justices??

..written and posted by anti-Christian bigots who want the general population to believe Cruz would require snake-handling in the White House—he’s a Southern Baptist, people...
