Cruz: Trump Is Manipulating 'Low-Information' Voters

Ted Cruz accused Republican front-runner Donald Trump of taking advantage of 'angry, low-information voters.'

“Listen, Donald does well with voters who have relatively low information, who are not that engaged and who are angry and they see him as an angry voice,” Cruz told “The Brody File” in an interview conducted Wednesday and published Thursday.

Cruz, who has racked up wins in Idaho, Maine and Kansas in the past week, said his campaign performs better among informed, engaged voters.

“When they inform themselves, they realize his record,” Cruz said. “He’s what they’re angry at. He is the corruption, and if you want someone to stand up to Washington, the only one who has been doing so in this race is me.”

The Texas senator acknowledged Trump has done well in Southeastern states — he’s won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. But Cruz said his campaign has done well in that pocket of the country, too, often coming in second to the New York billionaire but still picking up delegates.

“Now Donald has a harder problem in the West,” Cruz said. “It’s interesting. I mean, his location, he does well in the Southeast. He does well with a certain demographic of voter. Donald gave a press conference where he said, to quote him, ‘I love the poorly educated.’” Cruz suggested Trump is “taking advantage of his voters because” they’re angry. “I understand what they’re angry about, but, Donald, if you’re angry at the corruption of Washington, you don’t solve it by supporting someone who has been enmeshed in the Washington corruption for 40 years,” he said.

“An analogy of Trump after the debate. “I’ve been an arsonist my entire life, so I am the only one up here that knows how to put out fires”.”

Not really; arson is highly illegal.

So you buy Trump’s implied suggestion that we should vote for him before he grifts again? Trump gave 50K to Rahm Emmanuel in CHICAGO. Was this necessary? Trump sounds like a man of the left. Name one conservative candidate he has ever supported OVER a progressive. I don’t believe that it has ever happened.

Well said, but can arson in the name of Donald Trump truly be wrong? If Donald HIMSELF sets a fire, or donates to Hillary Rotten’s Presidential campaign, you KNOW that he would have to have a very good reason for it. Making America great again, you know!

Of course. Unfortunately I just hit a water buffalo on my way to pick up a couple steak sandwiches.

You are the kind of person I normally avoid. You can discuss disagreements with some people, but obviously you are not one of them, so ladened with hatred and venom. It has got to be unhealthy.

What’s crazy about what Cruz said here is if he truly understood the anger towards the GOP establishment and corruption, he and his campaign would not have embraced the corrupt GOP establishment like he is doing.

One could come to the conclusion, Cruz is completely out of touch with the American people, much like the elitists that dominate Washington DC.

Ted Cruz proves here, he IS an elitist!

He claimed-—and none denied it-—that he had given to every candidate on the stage (including Cruz and Rand Paul and Rubio).

He hasn’t embraced the establishment in any way, shape or form.

Trump has called for the establishment to unite behind his campaign. He already has an endorsement from Christie.

Why is Cruz somehow wrong for trying to do the exact same thing? Yet I still don’t think Cruz has any endorsements from the establishment like Trump does with Christie.

Trump said he loves the poorly educated and that he does well with their votes.

Once again, Cruz is bad for repeating something Trump said himself. Total Cruz Derangement Syndrome.

When? After he decided to run? I know he funded Crist over Rubio.

Thus, you cannot deny the NUMEROUS Trump supporters who have claimed, ON THIS SITE, that they will no longer watch Fox, Levin, listen to Limbaugh, read RedState, Breitbart, National Review...the list goes on and on..It’s called living in an echo chamber. Only reading/listening to those who agree.

Au contraire. It's called tuning out the "echo chamber". Why waste time listening to a bunch of blabbering talking heads all pushing the same candidate -- a candidate who not only lacks NBC status, but who has also exposed himself as a Bush tool? Smart people have better things to do.

Fine. I am listening to the trump rally (starts soon) and people started lining up at 3am this morning. This is bigger then the IPhone they say. Sorry but trump will win the general if this keeps up. Cruz can’t even fill a stadium. Just no excitement for him. I am amazed by the excitement trump brings. It has to be a bit depressing for you....sorry you feel that way.

The last time some junior Senator who was a Harvard lawyer with a questionable citizenship talked like that we got Obama. Different party, same attitude.

I didn’t take it that he was talking about ALL of Trump’s voters. It is well accepted that there is a segment of people voting for Trump that don’t normally vote.

From the American Spectator, published yesterday: “Trump’s supporters think he’s going to win because he has big rallies and millions of dedicated fans, and because some of those fans are people who don’t normally vote but will vote with a vengeance for Trump.” ( http://spectator.org/articles/65739/one-two-three-trump )

People that don’t normally vote don’t tend to be well-informed, and therefore do not have a knowledge base and can be easily manipulated. You can find these folks in both parties or the typical lazy uninterested that have no idea what is going on outside of reality TV.
