Ah, ok. I’ve heard the name but had stopped watching the races by the time he hit the tracks. Seems like maybe he was driving the Busch circuit back then. We stopped watching not long after they stopped calling then Busch and Winston Cup and I don’t know what they call them now. LOL
I’ve only been to 3 tracks for races - - Talladega several times, Atlanta once, and the new Nashville Speedway the first season (4 race weekends). Do they have to run in a line at Phoenix? Or is it flat enough they can do a lot of passing? I usually only watch Bristol and Dover if I’m going to watch at all because they don’t have to draft the whole durn time.
That’s quite a few questions.
Drive past Wilksboro and you can still get a pic of Winston Cup signs.
Nashville Speedway has closed. (Ticket Holder)
Phoenix can pass but it is a flat like Martinsville.
BTW the road to Wilksboro is called the Junior Johnson Hwy.
:^)
Well if they can pass at Phoenix, I just might have to give it a look-see this weekend. :-) I do miss the roar of engines. Gets the blood stirring. LOL
I knew Nashville was closed. Been closed for a while now. The had big plans for the complex and it’s a shame it didn’t work out. We were looking forward to the drag strip.
Do they still call what used to be Winston Cup, Sprint Cup? That just sounds so wimpy ..... like a go-kart circuit or something.
That works! Good for them naming it that.
I should stop and take pictures.
I travel all over the Carolina’s and just gawk at the wild stuff.
As far as politically correct goes, I’m pretty much baffled.
Cigarettes were no longer allowed to be a sponsor.
They went with scrotum cancer phones instead.
NC’s a pretty neat state to travel around in. All kinds of cool stuff to see. Used to be, any way, and it sounds like there still is. Some pretty countryside, too.
Raleigh was a good location because a couple of hours east, you’re at the beach. A couple of hours west, you’re in the mountains.
We have the mountains in TN but it’s a looooooong drive to the beach. LOL
Yeah, when Winston couldn’t be a sponsor any more, we were disgusted. PC panty-waist decision and it turned us off. The rule changes were already getting to us and then this same body design, same basic engine garbage came along.
We just go to local dirt tracks if we want to see some racing nowadays. They’re still run-what-ya-brung-and-hope-ya-brung-enough. :-)
Well, Smoky Mtn Raceway is ramping up this week. Get down to Seymour and watch a race.
That’s a track I haven’t heard of. It would be nice to check out something new. Unfortunately, we can’t take off for over-nighters with all the cats we have now. We didn’t nearly as many back in the day and Hubby’s aunt was young enough, she could take care of them for a weekend.
We hit the Winchester Speedway and Duck River. We used to go to the Huntsville drag strip but haven’t been in a long time.
Thanks, unique.
