Ted Cruz Says Donald Trump Is to Blame for Violence at His Rallies
NY Times ^ | 3/11/16 | Matt Flegenheimer

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said on Friday that Donald J. Trump bore responsibility for “creating an environment” that encourages violence at his events.

Speaking to reporters at a local Republican dinner outside Chicago, where Mr. Trump had just canceled a rally amid fierce confrontations between his supporters and protesters, Mr. Cruz began by saying that the “protesters who took violence into their own hands” were responsible for the episode.

“But in any campaign, responsibility starts at the top,” Mr. Cruz continued. “And when you have a campaign that disrespects the voters, when you have a campaign that affirmatively encourages violence, when you have a campaign that is facing allegations of physical violence against members of the press, you create an environment that only encourages this sort of nasty discourse.”

Mr. Cruz invoked the protests and violent police run-ins at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and predicted that future skirmishes were likely.

“When the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates,” Mr. Cruz said. “And today is unlikely to be the last such instance.”

He shouldn’t have gone there. But is he wrong in this statement?

"Trump reaps as he sows!"

So shall ye Mississippi Strategy Cruz'rs, as even a small sampling of this thread reveals several former Cruz supporters announcing their vote change to Trump.

Maybe you don't want to be on the same side as Soros, but right now, you are. Think about it.

Trump had 2 ways to bring more people under his tent A) Have the rally there or B) Let the world see the thugs in action & draw even MORE people to his tent.

As has been the case since he declared himself a candidate, Trump proves himself to be light years smarter than his opponents give him credit.

Mr Constitution, my azz. He knows he isn’t eligible because he has said he isn’t.

Yet, here he is in all his holier than thou Cubanadian glory defending the marxist Billy Ayers and his minions and blaming patriotic Americans for being violent at Trump rallies.

How dare he.

How unlike you to hold an entire group of supporters accountable for the actions of one individual.

A 70+ year old man was fed up with the interruptions of protesters inside a rally and everyone is to blame? Sounds a lot like the old, "it takes a village" meme.

Are you turning liberal on us, Charles?

And Ted Cruz is to blame for being a typical phony politician.

At least he has clearly outed himself for most reasonable on this board.

Trump is going to be president - I think now thats becoming obvious

Precisely where did he NOT stand for the Constitiution ?

by saying the BLM were responsible but the leader sets the tone at times??

Same with Obama... he would do the same thing and rile the leftests up.

Words can be incitive. That is all Ted is saying...

There are two instances that I am aware of. Trump had a tomato throw at him and he instructed his supporter that if they see someone else fixing to throw a tomato at him they should 'Knock The Crap Out Of' Tomato Throwers.

The other instance was a big man throwing his arms around and punching Trump supporters. Trump said he'd like to punch him in the face. Both instances were self defence.

This is about freedom of assembly. It's either inviolate, or it's not.

In this case, Cruz has decided to cast his lot with those who would shut down our freedom to assemble. He does this by blaming (partially) those who freely assemble because he claims their "tone" and their "campaign culture" invite it.

And yet Ted calls himself a champion of the Constitution. But in this case, he will NOT defend the inviolate right of freedom of assembly.

He's the very definition of a two-faced backstabber. He will not defend the Constitution, and he obviously will not defend regular Americans asserting their right to freely assemble.

That is called talking out of both sides of your mouth.

The perps were not Trump supporters: they were opposition.

Cruz has revealed himself to be a subsidiary of the Bush family this week.

And here he supports the fascist brown shirts of Soros and the democrats. They are one-worlders, OLOFOB. I hope you come to see it.
