DOJ ´may force Apple to turn over entire operating system source code´

With the brain trust they have at DOJ they still won't be able to read it.

I would feel a bit better about Apple had they not bend over and assumed the position for the Chinese.

I suspect that’s what Apple wanted in the first place. Allows them to maintain credibility with their customer base and it ‘puts the problem behind them’ (a little GOPe lingo).

Different request by the Chinese

Apple might cooperate with a reasonable request

I have a better question. The NSA has all of this data captured in the meta grabs. Why not just get it there?

So, there was this cop who decided to shoot a dog chained in someone’s yard because it MIGHT interfere with him doing what ever.
A woman protected her pet from him and got arrested for it, naturally.
He husband filmed the whole thing with his iPhone.
When he arrested the woman, the cop also seized the iPhone.
The iPhone was LOCKED and the cops couldn’t access it.
The video was key evidence in the trial and the woman was acquitted.
Wanna bet the video would not have been on the phone if the cops had a ‘back door’ into it?

Go Apple and screw the courts and the cops.

——The NSA has all of this data captured -—

No, that is incorrect by a very long shot. an I phone is a computer with a telephone ap. the device has all sorts of data not collectable by NSA. The wireless data transmission independent of the cell towers can transmit all sorts of very secret stuff the NSA could only dream about.

Then there are all sorts of aps with who knows what kind of records of value.

“With the brain trust they have at DOJ they still won’t be able to read it. “

They’ll turn it over to a government-favored competitor (Google, say) to hack it.

It is perfectly possible to have uncrackable encryption with open-source code. What will they do then?

If they do that, then the entire Apple platform will be compromised like PC. This is because our government has FOREIGN OPERATIVES that will get the source code too. It's a two way streak folks. On top of that it VIOLATES the 4th Amendment of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights makes it VERY CLEAR. Just because there was not an iPhone at the time does not mean the government gets a green light and can violate this.

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
