I met Liddy Dole at an event when I was 10. My mom was active in the local RNC and would drag me to events. I made a small American flag with a pencil as a staff and tried to hand it to her. A USSS agent statched it out of my hand and tore it. I was a little butthurt ......but realized, after it was explained to me, that they were trying to protect her. I was 10. I didn’t go on a rampage that people should have been punished. I understood!
She politely shook my hand and graciously thanked me for the gift.
I think that we just witnessed another Dan Rather moment this evening only larger. We have a long list of characters - Fields, Shapiro, Terris and others who decided to take a demonstrably false story and cling to the falsehood rather than just making a simple apology. I wouldn’t be surprised if Terris and Megyn Kelly quit their jobs tomorrow so that they can “spend more time with their families.”
