Interestingly, in 2012, Romney only needed 1,144 delegates to clinch the GOP nomination – as opposed to 1,237 this time, so 93 fewer delegates – and it took Romney until May 29.
Interesting! I did not know that! They have been planning this contested convention all along, but I believe they thought it might be Jeb coming up ahead but short and they would push him over in second round.
