....The weird rigors of this process have not always protected the parties from politically disastrous nominees, like Barry Goldwater or George McGovern. But Goldwater and McGovern were both men of principle and experience and civic virtue, leading factions that had not yet come to full maturity. This made them political losers; it did not make them demagogues.
Trump, though, is cut from a very different cloth. Hes an authoritarian, not an ideologue, and his antecedents arent Goldwater or McGovern; theyre figures like George Wallace and Huey Long, with a side of the fictional Buzz Windripfrom Sinclair Lewiss It Cant Happen Here. No modern political party has nominated a candidate like this; no serious political party ever should.
Because such figures speak as Wallace did, and Long, and Ross Perot, and others to real grievances, the process of dealing with them is necessarily painful, and often involves a third-party bid and a difficult reckoning thereafter. Trump would be no exception: Denying him the nomination would indeed be an ugly exercise, one that would weaken or crush the partys general election chances, and leave the G.O.P. with a long hard climb back up to unity and health.
But if that exercise is painful, its also the correct path to choose. A man so transparently unfit for office should not be placed before the American people as a candidate for president under any kind of imprimatur save his own.

That's rich.
Somebody needs to loosen the waistband of Ross' panties. They're in such a tight bunch that they're cutting off oxygen to his brain.
Ross Douchehat is the guy who sent out a tweet suggesting that Trump be assassinated.
The GOPe seems concerned that Trump could win. They would prefer Hillary because then it would be business as usual.
Little Ross is trying extra hard to please his bosses and Slimes readers, so he's playing a little psycho-drama that Trump is Hitler, because that's what everyone who reads the Slimes already knows, and Ross is going to show them how “principled” he is by destroying the democratic process - because, you know, this time it's really necessary.
And the Party is made up of millions of Voters, not the DC Pundit class.
The five stages, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance are a part of the framework that makes up our learning to live with the one we lost. They are tools to help us frame and identify what we may be feeling. But they are not stops on some linear timeline in grief.
This “Brokered Convention” nonsense is the bargaining stage.
New York Times columnist tweets joke about killing Trump

a politician’s loyalty to the political party over the constitution and the people is treason against their oath of office and they do not deserve to be in any position as a public representative
Ross claims that he's advocating the GOPe should do this for the good of the party and the country. Can you imagine what would happen to the GOP if Trump wins the required number of delegates and the party then deposes their presumptive nominee? There very well could be riots and the GOP would cease to exist almost overnight.

A political party is not much of a party if a majority of the members walk out.
Sorry for the double post.
My computer had a hiccup.
that would weaken or crush the partys general election chances
How to run a 3rd party candidacy?
1. Actually try to win. That means a presence in all 50 states, at least the states that you have even the slightest prayer of winning in, and definitely any state that is part of your pathway to victory.
2. You must take a majority of electors yourself, OR prevent any other candidate from getting a majority.
3. If you have a majority, then you are the POTUS.
4. If you do not, then it goes to the House for the Potus. In the house each state delegation gets one vote as determined by the vote of the members of that state.
5. You must get 50%+1 of the state votes. The 3rd party candidate will probably lose. The republicans will probably win, but it is possible to form coalitions with various states to win, but I can’t imagine what the deals would be.
6. In short, either Trump would win or the Republicans would win the presidency.
7. Oddly, he wouldn’t necessarily get his VP, because that goes to the Senate, iirc.
Trump will go 3rd party if these vermin steal the nomination from him.
Horse apples!
“transparently unfit for office”, he’s talking about OBASTARD, right?
