Congressional sources: Obama to nominate Merrick Garland

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama will nominate federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, congressional sources said Wednesday. The pick sets up a confrontation with Republicans who say they will refuse to consider his nomination in an election year.

Garland, 63, is the chief judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, a court whose influence over federal policy and national security matters has made it a proving ground for potential Supreme Court justices.

He would replace conservative, Justice Antonin Scalia, who died unexpectedly last month, leaving behind a bitter election-year fight over the future of the court.

Congressional sources spoke on condition of anonymity because Obama had not yet announced his choice. A White House official confirmed it was Garland.

Garland was confirmed to the D.C. Circuit in 1997 with backing from a majority in both parties, including seven current Republicans senators.

Obama planned to introduce his pick at 11 a.m. in the White House Rose Garden.

The president sent an early morning email to supporters, saying he had devoted a "considerable amount of time and deliberation to this decision" and consulted with outside experts and groups.

I don’t think we’ll see any fade at all.

Baraq and Mooch will be on tv constantly after Jan 2017.

The “Party of ‘No’” should become the Party of, “huh, did you say something?”

Orrin Hatch said "No Vote?"

Orrin Hatch is the guy who suggested that Obama nominate Garland LAST WEEK.

Ladies and gentlemen, your ESTABLISHMENT at work.

GOP leaders want to leave the choice to the next president, denying Obama a chance to alter the ideological balance of the court before he leaves office next January.

**************************************

The way the GOPe is acting currently, they don't seem to care if they lose the election to Hilly or some other Dem. and with all the bad behavior going on, assuming a Republican will be nominating a SCOTUS judge after Jan. 17 is putting the cart before the horse. Instead of cramming a loser we-the-people don't want down our throats, with SCOTUS being such a big deal, then they should get serious about WINNING the election (hint: Jeb!, Ryan, Kasich are losers from the get-go).

I certainly do not see them standing up!

How does the old idiom go, “expect the best but prepare for the worst!”

Prepare yourself emotionally for this

I'm well-prepared for the GOPe to turn on us yet again. I expect them to go back on their promise to not hold a vote this year.

If they did hold the line and refuse to nominate anyone to the court, I would be very suspicious. There would definitely be some angle of betrayal I wasn't thinking of.

Particularly if the election does not go their (the GOPe) way.

Any bets on how fast Mitch (0bama's Bitch) and the rest of the RINO GOPe will fold and kowtow to caliph Hussein 0bama's wishes?

It is well past time for the Republicans to run ads showing Schumer and Biden saying that no President in their ‘lame duck’ year(s) should get a SCOTUS appointment through. NOW!!

What is Garland’s record along the political scale? Adamant abortionist? Adamant socialist?
Is he currently flying under the Constitutional radar in his decisions?
Just a nomination and a a name doesn’t give anyone the opportunity to evaluate this guy.

Simply rejecting him as “Barry’s” nominee is not being honest. What is his decision record?
