Should the FBI win its ongoing legal battle with Apple, resulting in the Cupertino company being ordered to unlock the iPhone 5c used by San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook, some Apple engineers may decide not to cooperate with law enforcement.

Engineers rule! (TaMoDee, BS, MS, 45 years on the job in the field, etc etc.)
What happens if an engineer screws up and inadvertently wipes (and I don’t me with a cloth, Hillary) the phone?
Prove it’s deliberate.
Prove it’s not.
Remember, a business is just people. “Force Apple to unlock the phone” many say. If those people capable of doing what the FBI demands refuse to, what then?
I don’t want to even think the FBI are incapable of unlocking a phone - maybe something we haven’t been told?
“If Apple is Ordered to Unlock iPhone for FBI, Some Engineers Might Refuse to Help”
Well some will just go to federal prison.
And they’d be patriots
That isn’t going to keep you safe from being some dude’s patriot girlfriend.
Let Cook go to prison over this.
The government can force you to shovel dirt, break rocks, join the army and a lot of other things, but they can not force you to think.
No engineer is going to tell the government to go to hell,,,or at least I don’t think they will do any thing so dumb.
They will simply go to work every day and sit there waiting for 5:00 PM.
When the government bullies ask them when they will have the fix, they will simply tell them that they have not yet found the solution.
“Go away. I am thinking!”
This won’t be the first and only time. “This is just a routine traffic stop sir...Insurance papers and your phone”.
I just got a phone call asking my opinion about this. I said that I was disappointed that Apple hasn’t willingly helped, but I don’t think they should be forced to help.
I also think the FBI should have engineers that could unlock the phones themselves.
What if the FBI orders me to bench press 600 pounds ?
Swordmaker and others keep explaining: real security, which the FBI can’t crack, does exist in the iPhone.
Ahem.
The judge didn't order Apple to unlock one phone to the FBI.
They judge ordered Apple to provide a back-door to all iPhones.
I disagree, but assuming you are correct, I would expect some Apple engineer to fiddle around and then claim the device is unlocked. If FBI doesn't have the assets to unlock the device, how would it know it wasn't unlocked?
It would know because it wouldn't be able to unlock other devices it held. No, I suspect FBI just wants a piece of Apple's proprietary work. Apple should tell the court that work is fairly priced at $380B.
Educate yourself.
The judge didn't order Apple to unlock one iPhone.
The judge ordered Apple to provide a back-door to all iPhones so that the FBI can access any iPhone it chooses, whether it has a warrant or not.
Feel any differently now?
13th Amendment violation. Involuntary servitude.
What if the FBI orders me to bench press 600 pounds ?
***********************************************
Make sure you have an excellent spotter.
Good analogy.
Cracking this is the mental equivalent of bench pressing 600 pounds: possible for a few not easily found or persuaded.
And Apple is making the next version a 60,000 pounds press.
No, the warrant is just for the data in this one phone... the one the terrorists were using. Apple could comply without compromising anyone else's precious secrets, but they're using this as a marketing gimmick (plus they probably want to help protect the terrorists' contacts).
Engineers still rule! HOWEVER, I totally agree with the rest of your argument, well played.
