Part of the problem was that some of the blacklisted writers were some of the best in the business. Dalton Trumbo was an example The left has always had a lock on the culture. The right, for whatever reason, cannot compete, or more likely, refuses to compete.

Some very good right/conservative writers simply gave up because they could not get published. Their publishers were cowed by the Communists and some publishing firms had a very significant Communist Party presence in them.

If the late Major Nick Rowe (VN POW) were alive today, he would tell you, as he did a group of us, about the betrayal by his publisher, I believe it was Little Brown, of their promise to promote his book “Five Years to Freedom”.

This has happened many times over, and this was in the past 40 years along, not the early 30’s and 40’s.

Thanks to publishing firms such as Viguerie/Arlington House, etc., conservatives can get published today and have both great financial and print success.

I can attest to this because I worked on the national best-seller “Unfit for Command” about John Kerry. It was published by conservative publishing giant Regnery Publishing Inc., An Eagle Publishing Co, Wash. D.C. and the print run was over 800,000.

But the 2000’s are not the decades of the 20th century when liberals and communists dominated the publishing industry, and had their own, often unspoken, “blacklists” against conservative writers.

I was there. I saw it first hand.
