Ted Cruz questioned John Kasich's decision to stay in the presidential race Monday, openly speculating that Kasich may want to be Donald Trump's vice president.
Cruz also definitively told Fox News that if Kasich were not in the race, he would be able to hit the 1,237 delegate benchmark to clinch the Republican nomination before the convention. The Texas senator's declaration came not long before his scheduled address before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's policy conference.
"Either scenario is possible," Cruz said regarding his chances of winning the nomination outright or at a contested convention. "I think we have a clear path to 1,237, and we are fighting hard. If John Kasich were not in the race, we would get to 1,237. It is possible. Kasich's role is a spoiler."
When FNC's Bret Baier asked him why Kasich was staying in the race, Cruz said that he really didn't have a good idea before bringing up the possibility of being on Trump's general election ticket.
"I have no good explanation," Cruz said. "Maybe he's auditioning to be Donald Trump's vice president. Every vote for Kasich is a vote for Donald Trump."
"If Kasich were not in the race, I'd be very confident we'd get to 1,237," Cruz said. "If he stays in the race, I think we still can, but it's a more difficult path."
our Biden.
Wow been saying that for weeks now myself, LOL. Slow Joe Ksick. Ohioian and am sooo ashamed to have this ultra liberal twit as my Gov.
That fits.
Either Cruz has become paranoid or he has inside information from one of the other campaigns.
Trump would have won Ohio without Kasich.
If Kasich drops out, then Trump will win.
If Kasich is really looking for a VP slot, then it's with Cruz or the Democrats.
I would pay to see that live.
You once again prove that you need remedial reading classes.
Nowhere has Cruz said he has it ‘locked up’. In fact he says that Kasich in the race complicates things because Kasich bleeds away votes from Cruz, to Trump’s benefit.
Perhaps Kasich’s contribution will be valued enough by Trump that he will offer Jackass Junior a place at his table. That’s the point.
If that were true, the GOPe would have had Kasich drop out. It's not remotely true, Kasich only maybe costs Teddy a few delegates here and there, but he loses regardless.
Don’t let Kasich hear you speculate on that. He gets so damn mad at people assuming he wants to be a V.P. To me, that would still be an honor. Even if I agreed with most of Kasich’s platform (which I do not!! (CommonCore/ Amnesty),
he would be a long shot for the presidency because there is little name recognition among the average voter.
Ask around. I doubt if many more know about Kasich that know about Gilmore; The Invisible Candidate.
What did that happen?
Cruz has lost his mind ...
Here is a great article on just how low Cruz backers, Lying Levin and Crazy Beck will stoop ...
If Kasich would have dropped out, then Trump would have won Ohio. This race would be already over. Kasich hurts Trump with the Democrat crossovers and not Cruz.
Cruz on the other hand needs Kasich to stay in the race...., and that’s why he is meeting Kasich in secret. They are plotting against Trump.
Now the Cruzbots are trying to spin this meeting he had with Kasich. When they are working together to defeat Trump.
Cruz lost the ENTIRE south, and Kasich had nothing to do with it.......... Cruz needs to be gone after tomorrow night, along with Kasich
Same as Cruz is....that is politics. I will not vote Trump and a rino, I already see Trump as hugely liberal and playing people. It is what I am expecting though. I would vote Trump and a real conservative...not a pretend one.
What meeting? I can find no evidence that there was ever any such meeting.
Kasich could always be Postmaster General.
Is Cruz still working that Mormon prophecy savior gig with Beck?
Ted has been trying to get Rubio to help him out. Plus he has drunk the Glen Beck kook aid
I can’t see Cruz getting more than 10% of the Trump vote in the general. He has proven to too many people that his is the ultimate insider and a complete fraud.
The Foam Brothers, reprising their role in "The Havana Cabana".
