A cousin was overheard telling a reporter, the teen was a good kid, liked school, was really on the straight and n’arrow path.
Come on. I’ll bet must of us could have been ended up dead numerous times because of dumb things we did as kids.
When I was a kid, and we were playing with Pick Up sticks, my sister got stabbed through the ear lobe. I could not begin to reconstruct that chain of events. Kids do crazy stuff. Although we had the sense to shoot arrows at empty orange juice cans, and not each other.
My younger brother and I used to play dodge-the-dart! LOL
We would time it just right so that the dart would stick up in the door which would be closed upon release of the dart. One time he was slow in closing the door. I ran to the door to see him standing there with a dart sticking out of his shoulder. He did not yelp or scream or cry because he knew that if he had done that then both of us would have gotten our butts kicked! ;-)

Barney Fife only carried one bullet. So “dodge the bullet” games were a lot shorter in Mayberry.
They did something so stupid, the kid got exactly what he asked for. Not my fault they were raised stupid.

I one time wired the game “Operation” to 110 v by clipping the battery leads and attaching a plug end. I put a tablecloth on the table and ran the lead underneath. I baited my brother to see if he could get the ribcage out.

We used to spend lunch breaks on the construction site stalking each other and throwing nails at each other using “sinkers”. They really can take your eye out, stick in your skin and really hurt, but it was a blast. You just made sure you were wearing shades and not get caught unaware.
being dumb is unfortunately a part of being a teen. Just some do dumber things than others.
