Keller @ Large: Moulton Comparing Trump To Hitler Is Ignorant
WBZ ^ | 3/24/16 | Jon Keller

BOSTON (CBS) – North Shore Congressman Seth Moulton seems like a nice guy.

He’s young, good-looking, and the product of an admirable record of military service. His victory over Congressman John Tierney in 2014 was a breath of fresh air.

But Wednesday night he improperly compared Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler, and he ought to be called out for it.

At a Boston Globe forum, Moulton said “people should read the history of how Germany elected Hitler…and just try to understand the analogy” [with Trump]. As evidence, he cited a news account from the early 1930s suggesting Hitler’s anti-Semitism was just for show, not really indicative of his true feelings.

I think it’s the congressman who needs to read up on his history. Hitler’s public hatred and scapegoating of Jews and Catholics dates back to the end of World War I, many years before his election.

Trump has said many foolish things over the years and in this campaign, but nothing comparable to Hitler’s record.

And no one really familiar with what Nazism was and what Hitler did – no one who has actually visited a concentration camp – would draw the analogy Moulton did to Trump or any other major U.S. political figure, no matter how distasteful their rhetoric might be.

Hitler rallied the German people behind systematic genocide unparalleled in world history for its depravity. To casually equate it with Trump is ignorant and insulting.

A breath of foul air, you might say.

Of course, there’s also the fact that Hitler was a leftie.

Bos Globe article

Representative Seth Moulton compared the rise of Republican presidential front-runner Donald J. Trump to the election of Adolf Hitler and said Wednesday that constituents should warn “that crazy uncle” against voting for the businessman if he wins the GOP nomination.

Moulton, a first-term Democrat who represents the North Shore, made the explosive remarks during an appearance on the Globe interview series “Political Happy Hour” at Suffolk University.

He said voters should read up on how the German people elected Hitler in the 1930s, to gain a better understanding of how an educated society “can elect a demagogue.”

“I’m not saying that Donald Trump is necessarily Hitler,” Moulton said. “I’m not saying that.”

But he did not answer directly when pressed by Globe reporter Joshua Miller, who asked whether he believed Trump would govern in the same authoritarian manner as the German dictator if elected president. “I don’t know him,” Moulton said. “I don’t know if he would be, but he’s certainly talked about carpet bombing the Middle East” to fight terrorism, “which, by the way, is fundamentally stupid.”

A Trump spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Moulton’s remarks.

The 37-year-old congressman, who served four tours of duty in Iraq with the US Marine Corps, said he even told a group of high school students earlier Wednesday to steer Trump supporters away from the Republican, even though he normally avoids partisan rhetoric when meeting with young people. “I said, ‘If you know anybody who plans to vote for Donald Trump, you’ve got to take that very seriously and try to do something about it,’ ” Moulton said. “If nothing else, just find that relative, that crazy uncle, whoever it is that actually thinks that Donald Trump is a good idea, and convince him not to vote for this guy.” Trump, who won the GOP presidential primary in Massachusetts, has taken many controversial positions during his campaign, including indefinitely blocking all Muslims from entering the United States and conducting mass deportations of immigrants living in the country illegally. Asked to explain Trump’s popularity with much of the electorate, Moulton said voters are “so frustrated that they’re willing to overlook the actual substance and just” support someone new. “It’s frightening.” But Moulton, who in 2014 unseated longtime incumbent John Tierney in a Democratic congressional primary, also had criticism for his own party.

He lamented that the Obama administration pulled troops out of Iraq in 2011 without, he said, staying engaged diplomatically with that country. As a result, Moulton said, US troops had to return to the fractious nation when the security situation deteriorated. In addition, he said, the administration has not worked to help Syrian opposition forces organize politically.

I still want to know where all the ANSWER protesters were during Hillary’s Libya bombing. Did they block all the traffic in DC, SF, NYC, etc.?

Somebody needs to tell this idiot that Hitler wasn’t elected by the German people. It is also sad to see a guy who has served his country be such leftist scum. Oh well. Benedict Arnold was at one time a good soldier in good standing.

Somebody needs to tell this idiot and others that when people don't get to elect their leaders, bad things happen.

From Democratic Peace Blog:

:First, Hitler was never elected. He ran in two national elections in 1932. In the first, he got 30 percent of the vote, and no one got a majority. In the resulting runoff election, he increased his votes to 37 percent, while his opponent, World War I hero Field Marshall Hindenburg, got a majority. And since the Nazi party won 230 seats out of 608 in the Reichstag, it did not have the majority to make Hitler Chancellor.

So how did this happen? By backroom backstabbing, double-crossing, threats, and promises, including among former Chancellor Franz von Papen, present Chancellor Lieutenant General Kurt von Schleicher, and the elected President Hindenburg.

You can always tell what the commie ‘RATS are up to by watching what the accuse normal Americans of doing. This jackass knows that the DemocRATS are a bunch of fascist racists. To hide that from their voter base dummies, they have to accuse the GOP of being fascist racists. One of those liberal “everybody does it” things.

To a liberal everyone they hate is ‘a Hitler’. Everyone they like is a ‘victim’ - likened to blacks in the Jim Crow South. And themselves? They’re elites with the ‘right tone’....

Brain-dead. That’s what they really are - thoughtless brain-dead and stupid.
