Donald Trump releases epic statement after Ted Cruz accuses him of planting National Enquirer story

Sen. Ted Cruz lambasted Donald Trump on Friday in a scathing Facebook post that accused the GOP presidential frontrunner and his "henchmen" of planting a false story about him in the National Enquirer.

Trump released a tongue-in-cheek statement Friday afternoon that referenced O.J. Simpson, said the National Enquirer was often right, and expressed "hope" that the supermarket tabloid was "not right about Lyin' Ted Cruz."

Earlier in the week, the National Enquirer released a story that strongly implied Cruz engaged in extramarital affairs with five women. The supermarket tabloid's story became a social-media firestorm on Friday.

"I want to be crystal clear: These attacks are garbage," Cruz wrote on Facebook in response.

"For Donald J. Trump to enlist his friends at the National Enquirer and his political henchmen to do his bidding shows you that there is no low Donald won't go."

He continued:

These smears are completely false, they're offensive to Heidi and me, they're offensive to our daughters, and they're offensive to everyone Donald continues to personally attack. Donald Trump's consistently disgraceful behavior is beneath the office we are seeking and we are not going to follow.

Minutes before Cruz released his statement, a Cruz campaign official tweeted a letter Trump wrote for the National Enquirer last August. New York magazine reported that Trump and the National Enquirer's CEO David Pecker have been friends for years and are "very close."

"Well let me be clear: Donald Trump may be a rat, but I have no desire to copulate with him," Cruz told reporters. "And this garbage has no place in politics."

Trump issued the following statement in response:

I have no idea whether or not the cover story about Ted Cruz in this week's issue of the National Enquirer is true or not, but I had absolutely nothing to do with it, did not know about it, and have not, as yet, read it.

Fixed it.

Roger Stone and Katrina Pierson are political hacks IMO. Katrina is just another political prostitute, selling herself to the highest bidder. She is no more a TEA Party member than Hillary Clinton.

Cue up the Who, "Won't Get Fooled Again".

Why are you not threatening to sue Teddy? Afraid of Discovery?

Cruz is a hothead. Missing from his statement is “I have not had extra-marital affairs.” “These attacks are garbage” is deflection, not denial.

Breitbart should run with their follow up to this story.

He did say ‘these smears are false’ or something similar.

I’d still put that in the deflection column.

Where do you get that from?

Katrina is original tea party.

She was there at the very beginning. Even ran against Sessions. Later supported and worked for Cruz, also an early Tea Party candidate.
While Trump can’t be considered a Tea Partier... his positions align with a lot of Tea Party positions, that’s why Sarah Palin (another original Tea partier) and Katrina ended up supporting him over Cruz or Rubio.

But it does sound like a denial to me.

Would have been better as the first sentence of the reply though.

So you decide who is “Tea Party” worthy and who isn’t? Do you decide who is a “true Christian too?” Typical holier-than-thou Cruz supporter.

I’m going to tell you the truth: If by some miracle Ted Cruz is the Republican nominee(odds are astronomical against but let’s play along)he will lose to the Democrat nominee in a landslide of Walter Mondale proportions. You can take that to the (Goldman-Sachs)bank.

I’d like to have editing capabilities here on FR. Several times I had to re-post to correct some things.

Pierson came out and refuted the claim. She’s actually a decent person.

Who cares. Why won’t the Tweeter in Chief meet Cruz face to face and debate him on actual policies?

I give cred to Donald on this after some background research on a creep named Jeff Roe who happens to run Cruz' campaign.

The hedged language that the National Enquirer is using so far falls short of actionable as libel, and Cruz knows this. It is noteworthy that National Enquirer's owner David Pecker (no kidding!) is a friend of Donald Trump, and that NE went after Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina at key times in the current campaign. I don't pretend to know the truth in this case, but National Enquirer has motive and the story doesn't seem to fit what is known about Cruz. We'll see...

Trump supported several RINOs who ran against TEA Party candidates. Trump is always in it for Trump.
